Senior DevOps Engineer

This Manager-level role, band 6, leads the design and automation of cloud and on-premises environments so software ships securely, reliably and at scale.

You will push forward CI/CD maturity, observability, environment automation and resilience, working with developers, architects, testers and platform teams to modernise practice and support agile delivery.

Responsibilities

• Build and run secure, scalable AWS cloud infrastructure.
• Write and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code to automate resource provisioning.
• Automate development, test and production releases through CI/CD pipelines.
• Build CI/CD and observability tooling that keeps deployments aligned with best practice.
• Raise production stability and resilience through better monitoring and tuned processes.
• Work with engineering, QA and operations so applications integrate and deploy smoothly.
• Design and support microservices built on containers and serverless technology.
• Automate environment management, logging and monitoring.
• Keep cloud standards, security practices and company policies in force.
• Support agile delivery and continuous improvement work.

Requirements

• A degree in a relevant subject, or equivalent industry experience.
• Extensive, proven experience as a DevOps engineer on AWS.
• Hands-on skill with CI/CD pipelines, automation, pipeline-as-code and Infrastructure-as-Code using AWS CDK or Terraform.
• Working knowledge of containers with Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes.
• Scripting in Python, Bash, PowerShell, Go or Groovy.
• Understanding of observability concepts and tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, CloudWatch or similar.
• Experience building automated testing into CI/CD workflows.
• Experience with automation tools such as GitLab, Jenkins, Argo CD, CloudBees or Nexus.
• Working experience of Linux and Windows Server environments.
• Experience applying cloud security practice across infrastructure and applications.
• Ability to work well with cross-functional engineering teams.
• Experience in agile delivery settings such as SAFe, and applying Lean Delivery principles.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Desired: experience leading DevOps or engineering transformation work.
• Desired: familiarity with serverless architectures and microservice design patterns.
• Desired: experience with multi-vendor environments and external service providers.
• Desired: knowledge of Helm charts and EKS cluster management.
• Desired: knowledge of incremental delivery and shift-left practices for quality and resilience.
• Desired: software development in C/.NET, Java or Go.
