Senior Data Scientist - Applied ML

The Technology, Data & Analytics team is hiring a Senior Data Scientist for its ML group. You will work mainly with Product and Engineering to turn domain problems into data science problems, prototype and evaluate solutions, and work with Machine Learning Engineers to deploy and maintain them.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end machine learning and data science projects.
• Work with product and engineering leaders to find and scope new data science use cases in areas such as Risk & Insurance and Payments.
• Use SQL to query structured and unstructured data relevant to each problem.
• Prototype, evaluate, and deploy solutions using classical ML, statistical methods, algorithms, deep learning, and LLMs.
• Use AI-assisted approaches for analysis, model exploration, and deployment to increase your impact and spread data science across the organization.
• Help build and maintain shared team assets such as data assets, reusable code and tooling, and frameworks.
• Support technical and code reviews on the team.
• Build model monitors and systematic ways to collect consumer feedback after deployment.
• Work with the MLE team to shape the model deployment infrastructure and MLOps tooling roadmap.
• Take on other related work as the department or organization needs.

Requirements

• Have experience building and deploying machine learning solutions for complex, sometimes ambiguous business problems.
• Have worked through the full ML model lifecycle, from early data discovery and analysis to deploying and maintaining models in production.
• Believe good data science speeds up learning, improves decisions, and produces measurable results for customers and the business.
• Have 7+ years of experience as a data scientist or machine learning practitioner, with a record of driving business impact through statistical analysis, machine learning, and putting models into production.
• Have strong expertise in predictive modeling, numerical algorithms, and statistical methods.
• Communicate well and tell clear data stories that shape strategy and decisions.
• Have strong business acumen and can link analysis to product strategy, roadmap tradeoffs, and business outcomes.
• Are fluent in SQL.
• Are proficient in Python for model research and development and for writing production-grade code.
• Are familiar with a cloud-based data stack such as Snowflake or dbt.
• Show curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies and have applied them to speed up analysis, improve rigor, or extend data science work.
• Preferred: experience in a high-growth startup or SaaS company.

Conditions

Base pay for this role in the New York City office is targeted at $166,000-$214,000 per year.

Actual pay depends on factors such as skill set, relevant experience, and work location. Ranges for other locations may differ based on local labor costs.

The role is hybrid.
