Description

Are you passionate about turning complex data challenges into clear, scalable product solutions?

Do you enjoy leading through ambiguity, shaping roadmaps, and helping teams deliver high-quality outcomes in an evolving AI-enabled environment?

A bout our Team

DBS Product Management is a newly established team focused on products and data products. Our vision is a future where every colleague has trustworthy data they confidently use to streamline processes, drive smarter decisions and accelerate growth. We identify the products and data products that matter most to Elsevier and shape what they look like.

The Enterprise Product Hub (EPH) is central to that vision. It masters Elsevier’s saleable product data in a single governed model and publishes it to around thirty systems across the business. With books and journals established, the priority now is bringing digital products to the same standard as Elsevier transforms how it sells and invoices its products.

About the Role

The Senior Data Product Manager owns an evolving area of the EPH product estate – the attributes that enable us to sell a product, from what it’s called to how it’s identified and how it’s sold. You will report to the Head of Product Data.

This role complements the existing product management by taking responsibility for a current gap in our data estate: the ingestion and publication of digital product data. It is a greenfield build with no agreed blueprint. You will work with the business to define what digital product data should be (what it covers, who relies on it, what good looks like), then shape and deliver the digital product lifecycle solution that publishes it across A&G, Health and Corporate Markets, alongside the existing books and journals data.

This is a delivery-first role: you will work closely with EPH business and engineering colleagues and represent EPH's position in cross-team decisions, with a meaningful second strand; coaching and growing the analysts around you.

Your success will be measured by the quality of the decisions you make under ambiguity, the analysts you grow, and – above all – the extent to which the product data you own helps Elsevier go to market more effectively and makes the customer buying experience better.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with commercial, finance and digital product teams to define the products and data products they need: scope, consumers, quality and success measures.
  • Bring structure to unclear problems: frame the question, test assumptions with the business, make the call and record the rationale so others can follow it.
  • Own your product area’s roadmap and success measures, making prioritisation and scope calls based on business value to Elsevier as a whole.
  • Build strong relationships across business and engineering teams, and drive consumer adoption through governance, guidance and clear data documentation.
  • Write clear, testable specifications up front, from concept to live release, as the team moves to Spec-Driven, AI-assisted delivery.
  • Coach and develop junior and mid-level analysts, support onboarding and contribute to recruitment.

Requirements

  • A passion for maximising business value, and the judgement to own a product end-to-end, making prioritisation and scope calls from incomplete information.
  • Experience defining a product or data product – its consumers, scope, quality expectations and measures of success – and working directly with business teams as a partner, not a service.
  • Proven senior stakeholder management experience across business and engineering teams in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Experience writing clear, well-constrained requirements and specifications, and genuine interest in adapting your practice to AI-assisted delivery methods.
  • Knowledge of data management practices, ideally master data management (MDM), data governance and metadata management; MDM platform or academic publishing experience is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated experience coaching and developing junior or mid-level analysts, ideally alongside product management or product owner experience.
  • Work in a way that works for you
  • We promote a healthy work/life balance across the organisation. We offer an appealing working prospect for our people. With numerous wellbeing initiatives, shared parental leave, study assistance, and sabbaticals, we will help you meet your immediate responsibilities and your long-term goals.
