Description

The company operates one of the largest global networks, serving customers from individual bloggers and small businesses to Fortune 500 enterprises.

The company's product protects and speeds up any internet application without new hardware, installed software, or code changes. Traffic passes through its global network, which improves with each request.

This role sits in the go-to-market organization and reports to a Customer Engineering Leader. The team values curiosity over process, iterates quickly, and uses AI to ship improvements faster and share them across the team.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the main technical strategist for go-to-market work and a trusted technical advisor who shapes the customer journey for enterprise clients.
  • Guide clients from first pre-sales technical checks through onboarding, deployment architecture, and later expansion. You stay with the customer after the contract is signed.
  • Carry a quota as a technologist, using AI-supported workflows to cut administrative work so you can focus on architecture and measurable business results.
  • Work with Account Executives to run deep technical discovery, gather business requirements, and map complex customer infrastructure (DNS, CDN, Zero Trust, network security, Workers) to suitable the company architectures and custom solutions.
  • Define the scope, success criteria, and evaluation plans for proofs of concept and technical validations.
  • Build tailored presentations, architecture diagrams, and demos that show how the platform solves specific performance, security, and reliability problems.
  • Handle technical objections, security compliance questions, and unusual architecture requirements during the sales cycle.
  • Own the deployment strategy in every proposal, whether it is delivered by the customer, a partner, or the company Professional Services.
  • Oversee technical onboarding and implementation without carrying out the work yourself. Be the main executive and engineering contact for the customer.
  • Design structured migration and onboarding plans for each environment, such as DNS migrations, Zero Trust rollouts, and WAF tuning. Lead the customer's engineers step by step through configuration best practices.
  • Monitor customer health scores and telemetry to speed up time to value, clear integration blockers, and lower deployment risk.
  • Hold a variable quota linked to new business and/or growth of existing accounts. Be accountable for deep platform adoption, revenue retention, and cross-sell and up-sell opportunities based on usage data.
  • Lead technical quarterly business reviews that explain platform value as return on investment to C-level executives.
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor across the full customer lifecycle, from onboarding through maturity, renewal, and expansion. Advise on architecture, AI control layers, security posture, and deployment confidence.
  • Spot deployment risks and integration blockers early and propose ways to reduce them.
  • Use AI agents, large language models, and internal platforms to automate routine work such as RFP and security questionnaire responses, sandbox provisioning, basic telemetry checks, and documentation.
  • Work with the Enablement Team to create and maintain SOPs, architecture best practices, and technical guides for both internal teams and customers.

Requirements

  • 8-12 years of experience in a customer-facing technical role, such as Solutions Engineering, Customer Engineering, Professional Services, Sales Engineering, Technical Account Management, or Forward Deployed Engineering.
  • Ability to whiteboard, design, and clearly explain complex enterprise network and security architectures.
  • Strong communication skills to turn deep technical detail into business outcomes for both engineers and C-level executives.
  • Proven experience in a quota-carrying or revenue-focused role, with a working knowledge of SaaS metrics, business value framing, and enterprise sales cycles.
  • Excellent presentation and stakeholder management skills, including bridging hands-on implementation and C-suite strategy.
  • Depth in at least 4 of the following areas. You do not need to be an expert in all of them.
  • Internet fundamentals: OSI layers 1-7, BGP, GRE, TCP/UDP, authoritative and recursive DNS, HTTP(S), and SSL/TLS.
  • Security: WAF, bot management, firewalls, rate limiting, (M)TLS, Zero Trust, and SASE concepts.
  • Performance: speed, latency, caching, video streaming, HTTP/2, and TLS 1.3.
  • AI proficiency: prompt engineering, AI-assisted scripting and log analysis, LLM use, and workflow automation for everyday customer engineering tasks.
  • Coding and scripting: Python, JavaScript, Bash, Lua, Go, or similar, for integration scripts, API connectors, and edge functions.
  • Developer platform fluency: building or scaling applications with RESTful or GraphQL APIs, SDKs, webhooks, and developer tools in cloud-native settings. Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Pulumi), CI/CD pipelines, and observability for developer-led deployments.
  • A degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, at undergraduate or graduate level.

Conditions

Strongly preferred: experience creating and delivering technical enablement such as workshops, code samples, documentation, or developer onboarding that speeds up adoption of complex platforms.

Strongly preferred: applied AI knowledge, including LLM orchestration, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) architectures, and model-access controls.

Strongly preferred: understanding of regulatory requirements such as PCI DSS, HIPAA, and SOC 2.

Strongly preferred: background from hyperscalers, digital natives, distributed systems environments, or startups, which is highly valued for deeper cloud knowledge and architecture depth.

Locations: Amsterdam, Netherlands and London, United Kingdom.

Travel of up to 20-50% for customer meetings, conferences, industry events, and in-person team collaboration.

Competitive base salary plus variable compensation linked to full-lifecycle commercial targets, including new business, adoption milestones, and account expansion.

Eligible for incentive compensation under the company's Sales Compensation Plan.

For Netherlands-based hires: estimated annual salary of €111,000 - €174,000, including on-target incentive compensation under the Sales Compensation Plan.

The final offer will include time exemption, in line with applicable law and collective bargaining agreements.

Candidates who reach the offer stage may be asked to attend an in-person interview at a company office or hub.
