Senior Cloud Operations Engineer

Description

You will keep the company's AWS setup automated, secure and dependable for the engineering teams and the customers who rely on it.

This role covers setting up, running and monitoring the systems that help teams ship software faster. Your daily work centres on automating how software gets deployed, tested and upgraded throughout the environment, handling moderate to complex cloud troubleshooting with limited oversight, assessing new tools, and designing disaster recovery and backup processes.

Security controls, system audits and internal documentation keep the work repeatable and compliant.

Strong Python or Bash scripting, several years of hands-on AWS work and solid instincts for securing cloud systems are central to the role, as is juggling several projects at once.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain configuration and automation tooling that streamlines deploying, testing, packaging and upgrading software across the infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot moderate to complex cloud issues with limited supervision.
• Assess new applications and tools against business needs.
• Tune systems and technologies for strong performance and reliable functionality.
• Audit implemented technologies to verify that they produce the intended results.
• Help design, test and put in place disaster recovery, backup, information security and control structures.
• Set up monitoring tools and processes that keep system availability as high as possible.
• Help meet the company's information security and compliance requirements.
• Carry out system administration and design and build technical solutions.
• Produce reports and dashboards.
• Write architecture, configuration and troubleshooting documentation with internal stakeholders.
• Work independently, take feedback well, help teammates, and adapt to shifting product needs driven by customers and the market.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or a related field, plus at least 4 years in IT or business systems. A combination of education, experience and superior performance can be accepted.
• At least 2 years supporting customer-facing production systems in a datacenter or cloud environment.
• At least 3 years of demonstrable AWS experience, with 2 or more of the following: EC2, RDS, Lambda, CloudFormation, Route 53, API Gateway, Control Tower, CodePipeline, CodeDeploy, Sagemaker, IAM Policies, ECR, S3, DynamoDB, Config, Systems Manager, Service Catalog, AWS Backup, Secrets Manager, GuardDuty, Macie, Certificate Manager, KMS, WAF, Security Hub, SNS, SQS, and Step Functions.
• Scripting experience in Python or another language such as Bash.
• Working knowledge of how IT systems are applied, configured and implemented.
• Understanding of information security and how to apply it to cloud systems and applications.
• Ability to communicate clearly with team members and business stakeholders.
• Ability to manage several projects at once in a highly productive setting.
• Proactive, optimistic and driven to get things done.
• Desired: Experience using several AWS technologies to design and build well-architected solutions.
• Desired: One or more AWS certifications.
• Desired: Advanced experience designing and implementing security controls such as monitoring, encryption, alerting, OS hardening, least-privilege access, IAM policies, firewall and security group configuration, and third-party security testing tools.
• Desired: Familiarity with distributed version control (GitHub) and continuous integration.
• Desired: Ability to troubleshoot network and firewall issues between cloud and physical environments.
• Desired: Experience setting up and integrating development, test and production environments.
• Desired: Current or in-progress related certifications such as AWS, CISSP or other security certifications.

Conditions

The base salary range for this role is $93,900 - $159,600 USD.

The range reflects the minimum and maximum for this posting. It is based on market data and the company's compensation philosophy, and the final rate depends on factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications and business needs.
