The role is a senior cloud engineering lead position at Vice President level, focused on designing and building solutions for complex business problems.
You will work with stakeholders to pin down their needs, then design and deliver solutions that weigh technology risk against business delivery and keep approaches consistent.
The team builds AI agent systems on AWS EKS that use Anthropic LLMs, with privacy and controls built in from the start.
Responsibilities
Design and build solutions as evolving products that follow modern software engineering practices and automated delivery tooling, including choosing the technologies and platforms.
Decide on workload placement and use cloud capabilities such as elasticity, serverless and containers to get the most value from them.
Apply security principles such as defence in depth and limiting blast radius, and meet the company's resiliency standards.
Balance risk and controls so that solutions deliver the agreed business and technology value.
Use standard solutions where they fit, and contribute to improving them where they do not.
Help operational teams find faults and resolve performance issues using existing tooling.
Assess each design's impact on risk, capacity and cost, including project change costs and ongoing run costs.
Prepare the architecture material needed for governance reviews, including design artefacts for architecture, privacy, security and records management.
Set strategy, drive requirements and recommend changes. Plan resources and budgets, maintain policies and processes, make continuous improvements, and escalate policy or procedure breaches.
If you manage people, define roles, plan the team's future needs, coach staff on performance and take part in pay decisions. Balance short and long term goals and keep budgets and schedules on track.
If you lead without managing people, act as the subject matter expert in your discipline, set technical direction, run multi-year assignments, bring in other specialists, and coach less experienced colleagues.
Advise senior management and functional leaders on the effects and alignment of decisions across functions.
Assess and reduce risk in support of the control and governance agenda, and take ownership of risk and controls in your team's work.
Understand how the wider organisation operates and keep up with business activity and strategy through work with business-aligned teams.
Analyse complex options in depth, define problems clearly and develop new solutions, drawing on thorough research.
Build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and use influence and negotiation to reach business goals.
Architect and ship agentic workflows, RAG, tool calling and orchestration that shorten cycle times, while raising quality and driving adoption under enterprise governance.
Requirements
Experience designing, building and supporting secure, scalable AWS infrastructure across multiple accounts, using IAM, VPC, Route 53, CloudFormation, EKS, ISTIO, OPA and Kubernetes.
Experience automating infrastructure provisioning as code, including reusable CloudFormation templates and standard deployment patterns.
Experience leading platform operations, monitoring, troubleshooting, vulnerability remediation and security compliance to keep critical applications highly available and resilient.
Experience cutting cloud costs and improving DevOps practices by analysing usage, finding efficiencies and reducing AWS spend across an enterprise.
Experience working with application, infrastructure, security and business teams to deliver cloud solutions, provide technical leadership and adopt modern cloud, automation and AI-driven operations.
Highly valued: willingness to learn across business processes, current techniques and new programming paradigms.
Highly valued: ability to turn business needs into clear problem statements, shape roadmaps and explain complex AWS EKS and AI concepts simply.
Highly valued: practical experience with prompt design, automated evaluations for faithfulness and relevance, red-teaming, and guardrails and content safety.
Highly valued: experience tracking token spend and latency, running A/B tests, tuning model routing and making decisions from telemetry.
Highly valued: familiarity with LangGraph, LangChain, Google ADK, MCP tool integration, OpenSearch vector stores and event-driven APIs.
You may be assessed on risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, and job-specific technical skills.
