The company needs a senior cloud engineer to lead the design, build, modernization, and tuning of large-scale cloud environments that support critical government programs.

The role suits an experienced cloud professional with deep AWS skills and solid experience in Infrastructure as Code, automation, and cloud architecture.

You will act as a technical leader who sets cloud engineering practice, shapes architecture decisions, coaches other engineers, and builds scalable, secure, resilient cloud solutions.

You will work closely with cybersecurity, DevOps, software engineering, and program leadership to deliver solutions that move the programs forward.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, build, rollout, and tuning of AWS environments that run production and critical workloads.
  • Build scalable Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, including reusable modules, version-controlled deployments, and automation.
  • Act as the go-to cloud expert and guide engineers across teams.
  • Design and run secure, resilient, highly available cloud platforms that meet the organization's security and compliance rules.
  • Lead cloud migrations and modernization of legacy and cloud-native systems.
  • Build and improve CI/CD pipelines so infrastructure ships automatically and faster.
  • Set and maintain cloud governance standards, reference architectures, and engineering practices.
  • Assess new cloud technologies and recommend ones that improve scale, efficiency, security, and cost.
  • Build observability through monitoring, logging, alerting, and performance work.
  • Investigate root causes of complex infrastructure incidents and put lasting fixes in place.
  • Work with cybersecurity teams on cloud security posture, IAM governance, vulnerability fixes, and compliance.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and encourage automation and continuous improvement.
  • Support production systems and lead technical response during critical incidents.

Requirements

  • Active TS/SCI with polygraph security clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be accepted in its place.
  • 8+ years in cloud, infrastructure, DevOps, or related technical work.
  • 5+ years of hands-on AWS experience designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise cloud environments.
  • Extensive experience with AWS services including EC2, VPC, IAM, Route 53, S3, RDS, Lambda, ECS/EKS, CloudWatch, ALB/NLB, CloudTrail, Config, Organizations, KMS, Security Hub, and GuardDuty.
  • Advanced Terraform skills, including modular design, state management, automation, and enterprise-scale IaC practice.
  • Strong experience building and running CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or similar tools.
  • Deep knowledge of cloud networking, DNS, load balancing, network segmentation, and hybrid-cloud architecture.
  • Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience setting up monitoring, logging, observability, and operational excellence practices.
  • Strong grasp of cloud security, Zero Trust concepts, IAM governance, compliance frameworks, and security automation.
  • Proven record of leading technical work and collaborating across several engineering disciplines.
  • Desired: AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional.
  • Desired: AWS Certified DevOps Engineer Professional.
  • Desired: Kubernetes experience, ideally with Amazon EKS.
  • Desired: Experience with Docker and containerized application platforms.
  • Desired: Proficiency in Python, Bash, PowerShell, or other automation and scripting languages.
  • Desired: Experience with FinOps practices and cloud cost optimization.
  • Desired: Experience supporting high-availability production environments with uptime, reliability, and incident response demands.
  • Desired: Familiarity with FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, RMF, or other government cybersecurity frameworks.
