Senior Application AI Engineer - SAP Globalization AI

Description

The company makes enterprise applications and business AI for finance, procurement, HR, supply chain and customer experience, and has done so for over 50 years.

The company builds AI agents, intelligent tools and the infrastructure to scale them, with teams in 40 locations.

You would join the E-Invoicing Localization team in the company's Globalization AI group, which applies AI to coding, research, automation and software design to speed up compliant solutions for markets worldwide.

The team is in an active build phase and runs on learning, coaching and knowledge sharing.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of critical AI-powered systems, owning architecture, implementation and production operations.
• Design and build scalable AI applications, agents, retrieval systems and backend services, owning decisions on orchestration, APIs, security, observability and cloud operations.
• Design advanced RAG systems and agentic workflows that connect across distributed systems through REST APIs, MCP and A2A protocols, and event-driven or streaming patterns, with strong context management, validation and failure handling.
• Keep systems production ready through automated testing, resilience, observability and performance work, and investigate and fix complex issues that span several services.
• Design secure identity and service-to-service integration using OAuth/OIDC, authentication, authorization and secrets management.
• Assess new AI models, frameworks and protocols through focused experiments, advise on responsible adoption, and build reusable engineering patterns for teams across the Globalization organization.
• Own critical systems, mentor engineers, lead code reviews, and work with the AI scientist, product managers and domain experts to take validated findings into production.

Requirements

• You are a senior software engineer with extensive experience delivering AI-powered systems to production.
• You have solid backend engineering skills and hands-on experience with LLM applications, agentic systems and cloud-native architecture.
• You hold a degree in computer science, engineering or a related field, or have equivalent practical experience.
• You write advanced Python and have strong experience with async backend services, APIs, distributed systems, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD and automated testing.
• You have practical command of advanced RAG, context engineering, tool calling and agentic workflows, and can make nondeterministic AI output behave reliably in a product.
• You have led technically and mentored engineers, aligned product managers, engineers and domain experts, and turned new AI technologies into measurable gains.
• You use AI-assisted tools, context engineering and automation well, and make sure AI outputs are high quality, safe and aligned.
• You communicate well, collaborate easily, and learn quickly enough to adapt as the role changes.
• English fluency is required.
