Senior Developer

Description

The company is hiring a Senior Software Developer who uses AI-assisted development as a routine part of engineering work.

The team sits in the SAP CX OMS unit, which builds and runs high-quality cloud-native microservices that manage the order lifecycle and integrate with SAP Commerce Cloud and S/4HANA.

The work is agile and collaborative, and quality engineering and customer impact are treated as one concern.

The team builds the core backend services and CI/CD for the OMS product and works with every team in the group on a wide range of tasks.

The company has been operating for over 50 years.

The role is linked to skills including cloud architecture, customer relationship management, complex problem solving, observability, and AI output quality assurance.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable systems on your own, including AI-native components, advanced RAG pipelines, and multi-agent workflows.
• Build and own evaluation and benchmarking frameworks that measure AI system quality, reliability, and performance.
• Optimize latency, throughput, and cost across systems.
• Implement and improve observability and SRE practices, including monitoring, alerting, incident response, and root cause analysis.
• Work with platform, data, and AI teams to design robust, production-ready solutions and improve integration.
• Keep strengthening system scalability, resilience, and maintainability.
• Use AI-powered tools to speed up delivery, from understanding requirements and exploring designs to generating code, writing tests, debugging, and documenting services.
• Use AI-assisted tools every day while keeping architecture, security, performance, reliability, and maintainability standards high.
• Review, validate, test, and improve AI-generated code rather than accepting it unchecked.
• Keep up with emerging AI technologies, define and enforce team standards for AI-assisted development, and bring recommendations with a clear cost and benefit view.
• Design, build, and test complex, scalable, performant cloud-native microservices for the order management platform.
• Take part in full sprint cycles: refinement, development, code review, and deployment.
• Write unit, integration, and contract tests for production-grade quality.
• Own technical quality by setting coding standards, leading code reviews, and promoting test automation.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and apply DevOps practices to automate build, test, deployment, and operations using SAP BTP, Kubernetes, and GitHub Actions.
• Work with architects, developers, product managers, and other engineering teams to turn business requirements into technical solutions.
• Monitor application health, performance, and reliability, and act early on problems.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues across application, integration, and infrastructure layers, driving root cause analysis and permanent fixes.
• Help with technical documentation and knowledge sharing within the team.

Requirements

• Deep experience with distributed systems and scalable application design.
• Strong hands-on skills with LLMs, advanced RAG patterns, and agentic workflows.
• Proficiency in designing for scale, resiliency, and fault tolerance is required.
• Strong experience with performance optimization, cost management, and troubleshooting complex production systems is essential.
• A solid grasp of SRE principles, observability (logs, metrics, tracing), and incident management is expected.
• Experience designing evaluation frameworks for AI systems, validating model behavior, and applying agentic engineering patterns is critical.
• Technical leadership and mentoring ability.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent functional experience.
• 6+ years of professional software development experience.
• Professional experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar, with deep fluency across design, coding, testing, and observability, and awareness of their limits and costs.
• Expert-level Java. Spring Boot preferred. Proven experience with REST API design and asynchronous messaging such as Kafka or similar.
• Knowledge of microservices architecture and cloud-native patterns.
• Solid software engineering fundamentals and an understanding of clean code principles.
• Experience with CI/CD tooling such as Kubernetes, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, or similar.
• Working knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Comfortable working in an agile or scrum environment.
• Solid communication skills, with the ability to work across distributed, cross-functional teams and present to stakeholders.
• Knowledge of OMS domain concepts such as order capture, fulfillment, ATP, and returns.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms, SAP BTP and Azure.
• Contributions to open-source projects.
• You take end-to-end technical ownership of critical systems, including their quality and operation in production.
• You are the go-to technical resource for the team, unblocking colleagues, pairing on hard problems, and speeding up onboarding.

Conditions

The salary range is included in the posting. Final pay falls within that range and depends on education, skills, experience, location, scope of the role, and the selection process.

Variable incentives may be offered where applicable. They are target-based, and payouts depend on company and individual performance and the relevant plan terms.

Functional English is required for positions based in Quebec, given global work with company entities and Canadian stakeholders.
