Associate Machine Learning Scientist

Description

The role is a 2-year fixed-term position for an Associate Machine Learning Scientist doing research and development.

You will help the team win client trust, source strategic datasets and test new products through prototypes.

Your focus will be on judging and sourcing new data assets and building product prototypes. That means designing and adapting advanced algorithms, running them on large datasets to tackle hard business problems. You will juggle several projects at once, spot problems early and deliver work of high quality.

The company is a global data and technology business serving markets from financial services to healthcare, automotive, agribusiness and insurance. It has 25,200 people across 32 countries.

Responsibilities

• Analyse, assess and write up large datasets.
• Choose and apply suitable machine learning, data mining and text mining methods to extract value from data.
• Design data structures and storage schemes that allow fast manipulation and retrieval.
• Build tools for processing data and retrieving information.
• Build data-driven models that estimate the worth of a dataset, check their scores, and run ROI and benefit analyses.
• Document and present how models are built and how well they perform.
• Use analytical and industry knowledge to build detailed solutions for internal and external clients.

Requirements

• Solid grounding in probability, statistical inference, optimisation, linear algebra and calculus.
• Knowing when and how to use regression, machine learning, AI, deep learning and other advanced modelling methods to pull out and automate insights from data.
• Understanding of cross-validation and ways to limit needless complexity, such as regularisation, Bayesian shrinkage and comparing in-sample with out-of-sample results. Comfortable with significance tests and Monte Carlo simulation.
• Experience writing code close to production standard in at least one general-purpose language, such as Python or C++.
• Familiarity with the Apache stack (Hadoop, Spark), modern databases such as graph and time-series databases, and natural language processing tools for parsing unstructured data.

Conditions

This is a 2-year fixed-term contract.

The role is hybrid, with flexible hours and the option to work from home.
