Description

The company is a subsidiary of an international insurance group based in Madrid, Spain, and delivers IT services and solutions to the group's business units abroad.

This is a senior role on the Design Team. The focus is designing scalable, reusable integration solutions on Azure and building an API Platform culture across the group's international units.

The work covers integration patterns, API governance, and the mediation and integration layers, with some use of Intelligent Automation to improve process performance.

Work is organised in agile teams, and the Design Team operates across several countries and business units.

The role sits between hands-on engineering, architecture and governance, so you will shape solutions before development starts rather than only building them.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build backend service components that connect to Azure PaaS.
  • Design and deliver solutions for the API Platform and Mediation Layer initiatives.
  • Define, put in place and promote API governance standards across the organisation.
  • Design integrations using APIs, events, MCP and modern integration patterns.
  • Design web service solutions that are robust, scalable and reusable, weighing business and technical needs.
  • Build and maintain REST and SOAP services.
  • Improve and maintain CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps.
  • Ensure quality, security, observability and reliability across the application lifecycle.
  • Promote DevOps practices and cloud engineering standards.
  • Support solution design and architectural decisions.
  • Work with the Design Team to find reusable, cross-functional solutions.
  • Support integrations with insurance core systems, including the company's core insurance system.
  • Take part in solution assessments and feasibility studies for new products, upgrades, migrations and innovation work.
  • Define integration patterns that can be reused across business units in other countries.
  • Join governance forums and help shape key architecture and platform decisions.
  • Push for standard ways of working across countries and teams.
  • Work with architects, product owners, business stakeholders, platform, security teams and external vendors.
  • Find custom developments that can be replaced by standard platform features, reducing technical debt.
  • Help evolve the API Platform, the integration framework and the wider insurance technology landscape.
  • Share knowledge with technical communities and help raise engineering standards.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience designing and building APIs.
  • Strong expertise in REST and SOAP web services.
  • Proven work with Azure PaaS services.
  • Solid understanding of Azure DevOps, CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Experience with API Management platforms and API governance frameworks.
  • Strong grasp of integration architectures and mediation patterns.
  • Experience building secure, resilient and scalable solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear written and spoken English, as English is the working language.
  • Ability to own decisions and make sound technical calls, while staying open to feedback.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Experience mentoring and supporting technical teams.
  • Experience in the insurance sector.
  • Knowledge of INSIS, especially its REST and SOAP integrations and service architecture, is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Oxygen, Salesforce or other enterprise insurance platforms.
  • Knowledge of Intelligent Automation solutions and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience working in international agile environments.
  • Ability to explain complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Willingness to challenge the status quo and propose better ways of working.
  • Understanding that the best solution is the one that creates long-term value, not always the fastest.
  • Comfort working with many stakeholders in international settings.
  • Drive to build teamwork, share knowledge and improve continuously, and to become a go-to person for others.
  • CVs must be submitted in English.
