SAP Solution Architect

Description

We are hiring a permanent SAP Solution Architect for the ERP Architecture Team. The role is hybrid, based from the London office.

You will report to the Enterprise Architect and work where business needs meet technology. You will turn messy problems into solutions that are clear, lasting and work in practice across a tightly integrated application estate, with SAP at the centre of your remit.

This is a senior, collaborative role. You will bring technical depth, commercial judgement and practical problem-solving to a range of projects, and help shape technology decisions and designs built to last.

The Technology team delivers expertise and workable solutions to the company. It values flexibility and agility, takes personal ownership, and works as one team to meet the expectations of stakeholders who rely on it.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the S/4HANA migration programme, bringing solution architecture input and guiding the move away from the current SAP landscape.
• Work with SAP functional and technical teams to set strategies and standards for the SAP and Finance Centre of Excellence.
• Own the design of SAP system APIs: simple, record-based RESTful or OData services offering create, read, update and delete on core objects such as Customer, Sales Order and Invoice, published through SAP BTP. Build them to be resilient and future-proof so they support the S/4HANA move.
• Work with Integration Services to move toward an API-first approach.
• Review project requirements, goals, priorities and the current technology setup, then define and record high-level solution designs.
• Own the architecture, design, integrity and technical quality of solutions, checking that they meet agreed requirements and standards.
• Spot technical risks and solution gaps early, and recommend actions and mitigations through design and delivery.
• Produce high-level architecture models covering components, data flows, deployment and integration, including interim transitional architecture where needed.
• Support project managers, functional analysts and business analysts with planning, including resourcing, costs and delivery estimates.
• Assess non-functional requirements and set suitable technical acceptance criteria.
• Review designs, prototypes and other technical outputs against requirements and IT standards.
• Build trusted relationships across SAP, Finance, Technology and project teams, providing continuity and technical leadership for the programme.
• Track emerging SAP technologies, tools and industry trends, and flag where they could add value to the company's UK business.

Requirements

• Solid SAP experience and a good grasp of core finance and back-office processes, including accounts payable, customer services and credit services.
• Substantial solution architecture and design experience, including application architecture and design methods across several platforms.
• Proven record designing and delivering RESTful or OData APIs over SAP ECC or S/4HANA, including CRUD services for core business objects, built with SAP BTP (Integration Suite, API Management) or equivalent.
• Good understanding of API-led integration, clean core principles, and decoupling consumers from SAP through stable, versioned interfaces.
• Experience supporting or leading an S/4HANA migration or transformation, ideally in a complex, highly integrated environment.
• Experience turning complex business requirements into clear, practical technical solutions that serve wider objectives.
• Experience working with SAP functional and technical teams, plus wider technology, finance and business stakeholders.
• Clear communication and stakeholder management, including explaining complex technical ideas to varied audiences, including senior leaders and executives.
• Strong influencing, facilitation and negotiation skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively, explain trade-offs and help stakeholders reach informed decisions.
• Experience in a large matrix organisation, building relationships across teams and working as one team.
• Proactive, pragmatic problem-solving, taking ownership and adapting as requirements, technology and priorities change.
• You must have full right to work in the UK and live within commutable distance of the Embassy Gardens office in London.
• Desirable: experience providing solution architecture across a large, multi-year transformation programme.

Conditions

Permanent role.

Salary of up to £90,000, depending on how your skills and experience match the role.

Hybrid working: 2 days per week in the Embassy Gardens office in London, with a willingness to travel occasionally to the Frating site in Colchester.
