Description

The company powers product search and discovery for some of the largest retailers in the world, handling billions of requests each week. It treats search as a machine learning problem aimed at business metrics such as revenue rather than at features alone, and it has roughly doubled each year despite a slower market. Its customers span every eCommerce vertical.

The team is made up of technologists who enjoy hard problems and want to improve life for customers and colleagues. They value empathy, openness, curiosity, continuous improvement and a focus on metrics that matter, and they believe giving everyone room to act on their best judgment leads to strong results.

As a Sales Engineer you will own the technical side of the sales process. You will work alongside Account Executives and prospects to design integration approaches, assess technical fit and show how the platform produces measurable business results.

The role mixes solution architecture, consultative discovery and cross-team work. You will connect customer engineering teams with the company's Product and Engineering teams.

Demonstrations are not the core of this job, since Account Executives run most of them. The work centres on architecture, integration planning and consultative problem-solving.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical discovery and solution design with prospects.
  • Design and document integration architectures spanning APIs, ecommerce platforms, PIM, CMS and data pipelines.
  • Build and support tailored Proof Schedules, which are lightweight POCs.
  • Present technical material to both business and technical audiences.
  • Act as the main technical advisor through the evaluation cycle.
  • Troubleshoot APIs, SDKs and integration patterns.
  • Build prototypes and internal tooling when useful.
  • Create custom technical demos and integration blueprints for each opportunity.
  • Help prepare RFP and RFI responses.
  • Bring prospect feedback to Product and Engineering to shape the roadmap and integration strategy.
  • Contribute to roadmap and go-to-market planning.
  • Support enablement and training for sales teams.
  • Improve documentation, processes and best practices within the SE function.
  • Track ecommerce trends, AI and ML progress and the competitive field.
  • Represent the company at prospect meetings, partner work, field events and other industry gatherings.
  • Build lasting relationships with the technical stakeholders at prospects, including architects, engineers and delivery teams.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years in technical solutions engineering, sales engineering, pre-sales architecture or technical pre-sales.
  • Hands-on work with API-first platforms: you work directly with REST APIs, JSON, webhooks and SDK integration and can debug them in Postman or a similar tool.
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript, TypeScript, Python or a similar language, enough to read integration code, debug client-side code and build small prototypes.
  • Experience designing and running custom demos or pilots with clear, business-aligned success criteria.
  • Hands-on experience using coding agents to automate workflows and scale your output.
  • Ability to read a room, adapt your message to different audiences and spot champions, detractors and key decision-makers.
  • Strong written and spoken communication, with a record of clear technical documentation and of explaining complex ideas to developers, architects and C-suite executives.
  • Empathy for prospects' challenges and goals, and skill at listening with real curiosity.
  • Enthusiasm for new technology, technical sales and explaining value to prospects.
  • Comfortable working with prospects and with C-suite executives, from both technical and business angles.
  • Professional proficiency in Italian, French, Spanish or German is a plus.
  • Preferred: experience in enterprise ecommerce or retail technology.
  • Preferred: hands-on familiarity with at least two major ecommerce platforms, including how each handles catalog structure, extensions and headless versus templated frontends.
  • Preferred: deep understanding of mapping data from backend systems such as PIM, ERP or legacy search indexes into a new target schema, including product and variant structures, facets, attributes and pricing logic.
  • Preferred: working knowledge of search and discovery concepts.
  • Preferred: experience supporting security reviews and procurement, including GDPR, data processing agreements, data residency and ISO 27001 or SOC 2 questionnaires.
  • Preferred: ability to build business value models linking search improvements to revenue, conversion or average order value.
  • Preferred: exposure to conversational or agentic shopping, or to retail media and sponsored product programmes.
  • Preferred: professional proficiency in languages other than English.
  • Success looks like prospects understanding the technical integration paths, Proof Schedules tightly tied to business outcomes, technical objections handled early and well, faster sales cycles through a strong technical partnership, and clear, structured market feedback for Product and Engineering.
  • Strong peer and prospect feedback, and strong sales metrics and customer health scores, ideally excellent.
  • Comfortable in a remote, distributed, highly cross-functional setting.
  • Able to juggle several sales engagements and priorities at once.
  • A builder who creates structure where little exists and takes ownership with autonomy.
  • Collaborative, commercially minded and focused on revenue and sales growth.
  • Self-directed and resourceful.
