Description

The company is building a new resilience data platform, and this role leads its roadmap, development and rollout as part of the wider resilience tooling strategy.

You will define the product vision, set priorities for capabilities, and make sure the platform serves business and technology stakeholders across the enterprise.

The role is highly visible and gives regular access to senior leaders. Priorities can shift quickly, so you will balance long-term strategy with day-to-day delivery and manage stakeholder expectations.

The product owner's core job is to raise product value by setting a clear vision, shaping and ranking the backlog, and weighing desirability, viability and feasibility so the team builds the right thing. You act as the main link between stakeholders and delivery teams, and you build and drive the roadmap for your product area or sub-journey, using continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Align the product and its features with business goals by using market research, customer feedback and industry trends to spot new products, features or improvements.
  • Explain the product vision and goals to delivery teams so they understand the business value behind each feature and story.
  • Write clear, concise user stories with detailed acceptance criteria, and refine them so developers have what they need.
  • Take part in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews and retrospectives to keep the team focused on the backlog.
  • Create, maintain and rank the product backlog so the highest-value work comes first, weighing business needs, customer requirements, organisational impact, risk and future needs against the product strategy.
  • Gather feedback from customers and end users to understand their pain points and improve their experience.
  • Review completed sprint work, accepting or rejecting it against the agreed acceptance criteria.
  • Work with customers, business leaders and marketing teams to gather requirements, set product goals and keep the vision aligned with business objectives.
  • Track product performance with KPIs and feedback, and adjust the backlog and roadmap to improve functionality.
  • Manage live products, covering readiness, run activity, monitoring, governance and approvals.
  • Identify product risks, plan how to resolve or reduce them, escalate when needed, and keep product management aligned with control functions.
  • Contribute to or set strategy, shape requirements and recommend changes. Plan resources, budgets and policies, maintain policies and processes, drive continuous improvement, and escalate policy breaches.
  • If you manage people, define roles and responsibilities, plan for future team needs, coach people on performance, and input on pay decisions.
  • If you are an individual contributor, act as the subject matter expert in your field, set technical direction, lead multi-year work, and coach less experienced specialists.
  • Advise senior management and functional leaders on the impact and alignment of work across and within functions.
  • Manage and reduce risk through assessment, supporting the control and governance agenda, and take responsibility for risk and controls in your team's work.
  • Build a solid understanding of how the organisation works and how business support areas operate, so you can help meet business goals.
  • Solve problems through sophisticated analysis, comparing complex options and developing new solutions, drawing on in-depth research.
  • Build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, using influence and negotiation to reach business outcomes.
  • Show the company's values of Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence and Stewardship, and its mindset to Empower, Challenge and Drive.
  • If you lead people, model the LEAD behaviours: listen and be authentic, energise and inspire, align across the enterprise, and develop others.

Requirements

  • Proven product ownership experience, including setting product vision, building roadmaps and delivering outcomes.
  • Strong Agile delivery experience, including working in Agile frameworks and leading cross-functional teams through product lifecycles.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence senior business and technology leaders.
  • Experience delivering technology products, platforms or tooling in complex enterprise environments, using data to inform insights, decisions and planning.
  • Solid knowledge of operational resilience and resilience frameworks, and the ability to turn business needs into technology solutions.
  • Highly valued: experience in financial services or another large, complex organisation.
  • Highly valued: change management and project management experience, including large-scale transformation.
  • Highly valued: experience working with third-party vendors and external delivery partners.
  • Highly valued: understanding of data-driven products and technology-enabled business solutions.
  • Highly valued: strong risk management and governance awareness.
  • Highly valued: strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities and build consensus across diverse groups.
  • You may be assessed on critical skills such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology capabilities, and job-specific technical skills.
