The company is a global smart mobility business that builds technology to help people move safely and easily.
It works with police departments and municipalities to install over 4,000 red-light, speed, and school bus stop arm safety cameras across North America.
It also runs smart roadways for the world's largest commercial fleets and rental car companies, handling tolling and violations for over 8.5 million vehicles.
Its connected systems process close to 165 million transactions a year across 50+ tolling authorities.
The role is the QA Architect, who sets the quality vision and strategy across the Platform, Credential, and Violations portfolios and works hands on with squads.
The team is entrepreneurial and people-focused, and it values bias for action, customer focus, teamwork, drive for results, and commitment to excellence.
Responsibilities
Set the enterprise QA vision and long term automation strategy for Platform, Credential, and Violations, guided by shift left.
Define one testing standard covering the testing pyramid and automation across unit, integration, contract, end to end, performance, and non functional testing, while allowing for real differences between portfolios.
Extend the quality tooling roadmap to cover asynchronous, event driven, and message based integrations, not only synchronous request and response calls.
Build and maintain core automation frameworks and shared test libraries, and write and review test code, scripts, and test plans alongside squad engineers.
Step into squads that lack automation skill or capacity by pairing with engineers, running training, or writing the first test suite yourself.
Perform or guide load, stress, performance, and basic OWASP-informed security testing where the risk profile warrants it.
Work with QA Leads and Tech Leads in each portfolio to apply the strategy through standards, coaching, and hands on help, without direct reporting lines.
Find and resolve cross portfolio testing dependencies, such as making sure Credential and Violations squads can reliably test integrations between eligibility, provisioning, and citation workflows.
Represent QA in the Architecture CoE, flag where automation or quality standards need to change, and track defect escape rate, automation coverage, test execution time, and change failure rate.
Requirements
8+ years in QA, quality engineering, or software engineering, including 4+ years focused on test automation strategy and architecture.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Current hands on skill writing production quality automation code, including joining a squad's codebase and shipping tests.
Senior knowledge of testing processes, principles, and techniques at ISTQB depth or equivalent.
Strong automation and scripting skills with current tools. Python, pytest, and Playwright are strongly preferred over older frameworks.
Command of clean coding and the Test Automation Pyramid, and the judgment to know when to depart from them.
Working knowledge of load, stress, and endurance testing, plus basic OWASP-informed security testing.
Practical, current experience with SQL, REST and SOAP APIs, CI/CD tooling, and browser and mobile testing tools.
Experience designing test and validation strategies for asynchronous, event driven, and message based integrations.
Working knowledge of test data management and data quality validation for shared or regulated datasets.
Experience designing and building automation frameworks and shared libraries, not only maintaining existing ones.
Experience setting technical direction across several teams without direct command and control authority.
Clear written and verbal communication that explains quality strategy to engineers and to senior leaders.
Preferred: ISTQB, ASTQB, or a more advanced credential.
Preferred: experience establishing a QA or automation function from an earlier or less mature state.
Plus: experience in mobility, transportation, tolling, parking, or other high volume transaction processing.
Plus: familiarity with compliance relevant testing such as PCI DSS and data privacy.
Preferred: experience designing regression and cutover test strategies for live system migrations.
Preferred: experience evaluating third party test automation or quality tooling vendors, including basic build versus buy judgment.
You naturally work in line with the core values: Own It (drive high performance and accountability), Do What's Right (integrity and good judgment), Choose Courage Over Comfort (address issues early and prioritize progress), and Win Together (grow and inspire people together).
