Description

As a Project Manager, you will work within a multi-disciplinary research team at GE Vernova to support the delivery of strategic research and development programs focused on advanced robotics and computer vision. You will serve as the operational partner to Project Leaders (PLs), ensuring the seamless execution of a portfolio of research projects. In this role, you will define project lifecycles, manage milestones, oversee procurement and budget tracking, and act as a central point for stakeholder communication. This role is critical to the team’s success, providing the operational rigor required to transform high-level innovation into documented, deployable, and compliant solutions.

As a GE Vernova accelerator, Advanced Research drives strategy and leads research and development efforts in partnership with GE Vernova businesses, government agencies, and external collaborators to deliver near-term impact and long-term breakthrough innovation.

Essential Responsibilities

Project Oversight: Manage a portfolio of 5–10 research projects, maintaining detailed project plans, Gantt charts, and milestone tracking.

Operational Partnership: Partner closely with PLs to handle non-technical work components, including procurement, staffing logistics, and budget health monitoring.

Risk & Resource Management: Proactively identify project risks, budget overruns, or scheduling bottlenecks; develop and execute mitigation strategies to ensure project health.

Stakeholder & Process Management: Act as a primary or secondary point of contact for project stakeholders; streamline internal processes and ensure project documentation is accurate and up-to-date in team databases.

Strategic Support: Assist in the preparation of project reporting and performance summaries for internal and external audiences, ensuring technical teams remain focused on innovation.

Core Competencies:

o Project Rigor: Expert in developing and maintaining project schedules, milestones, and deliverables.

o Budgetary Oversight: Proven ability to manage budgets, track expenditures, and flag financial risks before they impact project scope.

o Operational Fluency: Experience coordinating cross-functional processes (e.g., procurement, staffing, internal compliance).

o Risk Mitigation: Ability to anticipate and communicate project risks to technical leadership.

o Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to translate technical milestones into clear status reports for diverse stakeholders.

Position Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business Administration, Operations, Project Management or similar).

Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in project management within a research, engineering, or technical development environment. Candidates with a higher level of education (i.e. Master's degree) will be considered with a minimum of 2 years of experience.

Compliance:

o Legal authorization to work in the US is required.

o Must be 18 years or older; must be willing to work on-site in Niskayuna, NY.

o You must submit your application via the Careers page at www.careers.gevernova.com to be considered.

Desired Characteristics

Research Familiarity: Experience working in a technical or research-focused environment where you have supported engineers or scientists.

Adaptability: Ability to navigate ambiguity and handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced innovation setting.

Proactivity: A self-starter who anticipates the needs of technical leads and takes ownership of operational workflows without needing constant oversight.

Systems Proficiency: Ability to quickly learn and master complex internal database management and project tracking systems.
