Description

The company builds hydrogen fuel cell systems, and this role supports customer deployments of its GenFuel offering, with a focus on the pre-construction stage: third-party engineering, permitting and contractor bids.

Permitting gates both construction start and revenue, so the role needs a specialist rather than a generalist. Submittal packages must be correct on the first pass to avoid rejections or shelved projects from local authorities.

You will work with the internal project teams, industrial gas companies, permitting agencies, contractors, suppliers and end customers to keep hydrogen deployments on track.

Travel to deployment sites is required, up to 100% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Shorten the average pre-construction phase by improving engineering workflows and building predictive permitting playbooks.
  • Forecast construction start dates accurately so the wider organization can plan and project revenue.
  • Own the full pre-construction phase: drive third-party engineering, secure contractor bids and move the permitting process forward.
  • Lead coordination, formal presentations and ongoing relationships with authorities having jurisdiction, such as towns, counties and fire marshals, to clear lengthy regulatory approvals.
  • Follow up in person with local authorities and agencies to prevent stalls, clear up misunderstandings and keep projects moving.
  • Build and maintain detailed project schedules and budgets, and resolve bottlenecks to meet end-customer expectations.
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, spot missing components and work with suppliers and contractors to finalize the design.
  • Align the activities of everyone involved in a deployment, including industrial gas companies, internal teams, contractors and local regulators.
  • Build and maintain a detailed understanding of the company's products and the hydrogen infrastructure designs they belong to.
  • Keep internal team members and end customers informed openly and regularly about expectations, risks and commitments.
  • Represent the company professionally and diligently at all times, including at regulatory hearings and customer meetings.

Requirements

  • A BS in engineering (mechanical, electrical or another applicable field).
  • At least 3 years of experience in project-based engineering or construction project management, including pre-construction work and securing complex building or environmental permits.
  • A proven record of delivering quality work on time and on budget while shortening phase timelines.
  • Skill in presenting to and influencing AHJs such as fire marshals, zoning boards and town councils to win approvals without delays.
  • Mechanical systems knowledge and troubleshooting skill, with the ability to catch errors in engineering submittal packages before they reach regulators.
  • Proficiency in the software relevant to the role, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills for diverse audiences and regulators.
  • Uncompromising commitment to quality, a careful analytical approach and close attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and handle several tasks at once.
  • Strong follow-through and self-motivation to push past bureaucratic obstacles.
  • Ability to model high professional standards.
  • Preferred: PMP certification.
  • Preferred: experience in hydrogen or fuel cells, the cryogenic industry, high pressure systems (250 Bar and up), gas processing or dispensing equipment, oil and gas, CNG or LNG, or logistics and material handling.
  • Frequent travel within the domestic U.S. to customer sites and jurisdictional offices, up to 100% of the time.

Conditions

Salaried, exempt position.

Pay range: $86,400.00 to $135,000.00. Final pay depends on factors such as education, experience, skills and location, and may not reflect local geographic differences. HR can discuss any applicable geographic adjustment.

Travel to domestic U.S. sites and offices, up to 100% of the time.

Benefits

  • Health, dental and vision insurance, starting on the first day of employment.
  • 401(k) with a 5% company match.
  • Bonus eligibility.
  • Paid vacation, personal and sick time, plus paid holidays.
  • Wellness reimbursement program.
  • Possible tuition reimbursement.
  • Employee referral program.
  • Employee assistance program.
