The company is a defense business with a multi-product portfolio, founded in 2022 and backed by $1 billion in funding from investors including 8VC, Accel, and Valor Equity Partners.
Offices are in Los Angeles (headquarters), Washington, D.C., San Francisco, San Diego, and London.
You will own the tools and services that gather data from scattered production sources, combine it into one system, and make it usable across the factory.
You will be a high-ownership engineer based on-site in Los Angeles, CA, working closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Engineering, and IT.
The role centers on Python services built on the existing codebase, deployed in containers, and on setting engineering practices for a manufacturing software team that is growing.
Responsibilities
Design and build Python services that ingest, organize, and store manufacturing data from shop-floor, test, and enterprise sources in mixed formats, then expose it as a system others can depend on.
Connect manufacturing software with MES, ERP, QMS, PLM, and data platforms so production data is trustworthy, queryable, and usable end to end.
Turn ad hoc production and operations requests into reusable tools with clear interfaces, documentation, and a route to adoption.
Build systems that grow with production and that operators, technicians, and engineers can pick up easily.
Write software that talks to devices and services across factory networks, including multiple subnets and VLANs, and debug connectivity, routing, and interface problems as they come up.
Containerize your services with Docker or an equivalent, run your code in containers, and work alongside software already running in containerized environments.
Deploy and run services in a major cloud environment such as Azure or AWS, including the networking, storage, and runtime layers they rely on.
Set practical standards for system design, code quality, CI/CD, and maintainability across the manufacturing software team.
Work with manufacturing, quality, and production engineering to learn how data is created on the floor and how it should move into downstream tools.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related STEM field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including a record of owning systems from start to finish.
Strong Python development experience.
Hands-on experience building and running software in a major cloud environment such as Azure or AWS.
Proven system design skills: you plan past the immediate request and ship tools that scale and get used.
Experience organizing data from several sources and formats into usable storage, access, and application layers.
Working knowledge of networking fundamentals as they apply to your software, including IP addressing, routing, subnetting, VLANs, and communicating with devices across those networks.
Practical experience with Docker or another container tool, including packaging your own services and integrating with containerized runtimes.
Comfortable working in Linux every day, including the command line, services, logs, permissions, and basic networking.
Familiarity with modern CI/CD practices and tools such as Jenkins, Artifactory, or equivalent.
Regular use of AI-assisted engineering tools such as Cursor, Claude, or ChatGPT in your development work.
Ability to work across factory functions and explain things clearly to both engineers and non-engineers.
U.S. citizenship is required. The role accesses export-controlled information and requires a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance, either current or obtainable and maintainable.
Preferred: experience in aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or a high-growth startup.
Preferred: experience with Palantir Foundry.
Preferred: familiarity with MES/MOM, ERP, QMS, CRM, and modern data or ontology platforms.
Preferred: JavaScript or TypeScript, or willingness to work across the stack when a factory tool needs a usable interface.
Preferred: experience with production software delivery and deployment, including DevOps or DevSecOps practices.
Preferred: experience supporting digital manufacturing, factory automation, or shop-floor OT and IT systems.
Preferred: experience guiding other engineers on software design, code quality, and delivery.
Preferred: an active DoD Secret or Top Secret security clearance.
