Description

The space systems group is hiring at the Principal or Sr Principal Software Signal Processing Engineer level, and the level is set by the basic qualifications below.

The team supports a radar contract that builds new digital signal processing software to identify and track objects in geosynchronous orbit.

Posting code: SPEnhancedERAP.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, document, test and debug application software and systems that rely on logic and mathematical methods.
  • Do multidisciplinary research and work with equipment and hardware engineers on planning, designing, building and using electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software.
  • Work out what computer users need, assess system capabilities to solve problems around program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls, and write operating instructions.
  • Design and build compilers, assemblers, utility programs and operating systems.
  • The list of duties is not exhaustive.

Requirements

  • Show a track record of developing and optimizing radar signal processing algorithms and pipelines (DSP), using common engineering toolchains such as DSP System Toolbox, Signal Processing Toolbox and Phased Array System toolsets.
  • Show a track record of GPGPU acceleration with CUDA for performance-critical signal processing and or analytics work.
  • Use AI-enabled engineering tools, such as an AI coding assistant, for code explanation, refactoring and test generation, while remaining accountable for code you have reviewed.
  • Principal level: a Bachelor's in Science with 5 years, a Master's in Science with 3 years, or a PhD with 1 year. Without a degree, 4 extra years are required.
  • Sr Principal level: a Bachelor's in Science with 8 years, a Master's in Science with 6 years, or a PhD with 3 years. Without a degree, 4 extra years are required.

  • Have experience with C++, Java, Python and CUDA.
  • Have experience with Linux.
  • Have experience with RF signal processing.
  • Have experience with GPU optimization.
  • Have experience with the NVIDIA MatX library.
  • Have experience with AI tooling.
  • Have experience with high side development and processes.
  • Preferred: explain how a radar signal is processed into a Range Doppler Map, how a sparse array performs beamforming, the concept of loss budgets and system tradeoffs, and how calibration applies to a distributed system.
  • Preferred: understand real-time processing in C++, current C++ standards and modern C++ techniques.
  • Preferred: understand the benefits and limits of running signal processing code on GPGPUs and know cuFFT and or cuSignal. MatX is preferred but not required.
  • Preferred: working knowledge of Matlab and Python.
  • Preferred: a self-starter who can work with minimal direction, learn the system with little instruction, and look for defects and optimizations at every step.
  • Writing or implementing signal processing algorithms alone is not sufficient.
