Description

The company makes a cloud security platform, the Zero Trust Exchange, which protects customers from cyberattacks and data loss by connecting users, devices and applications from any location. It runs across more than 200 public data centers worldwide and thousands of private edge sites, and it is described as the largest in-line cloud security platform in the world.

The company is building an AI-native enterprise in which people work alongside machine intelligence to tackle hard security problems. Its stated working values are ownership and collaboration, trust built through outcomes, and a challenge culture with regular feedback.

This is a Principal Software Engineer role on the Intelligent Data Platform, part of the Cloud Data Platform team. You will report to the Director, Software Development Engineering. The role centers on leading the development of the core data platform, including its design, build and ongoing evolution as business needs change. It requires deep experience with cloud data platforms and with building and scaling high-performance systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, design and development of the multi-tenant, cloud-based data platform, working with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, secure and high-performance solutions.
  • Work closely with product management and stakeholders to tie long-term technical strategy to business goals, help shape the product roadmap, and turn requirements into delivery plans.
  • Assess and refine engineering processes, agile practices and best practices to improve development speed, delivery pace and code quality.
  • Own engineering and operational excellence, targeting 4-9s availability around the clock in a full DevOps model. Build solutions for reliability, fault tolerance and automation, and resolve customer issues quickly.
  • Investigate new and cross-provider cloud technologies to keep the platform flexible and current, and mentor junior engineers toward inclusive collaboration and strong technical work.

Requirements

  • Foundational understanding of AI and ML technologies, with experience using, securing or positioning AI-driven solutions to improve outcomes in your area.
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience building and running large-scale cloud data platforms, with expertise in distributed systems and data architecture.
  • Track record of driving cross-team technical programs to delivery, including leading design reviews, clearing cross-functional blockers and writing clear architecture guidance.
  • Proficiency in Java or alternatives such as Go or Python, with deep experience in REST APIs, RDBMS, document stores, Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field. Advanced degrees and industry certifications are advantageous.
  • Experience working with product management and cross-team stakeholders to turn requirements into execution plans.
  • Preferred qualifications: Proven use of AI technologies and workflows to produce measurable gains in operational efficiency.
  • Preferred qualifications: Experience with monitoring, tracing and observability tools and frameworks such as Grafana and Prometheus.
  • Preferred qualifications: Proficiency with test frameworks and writing unit tests.
  • Preferred qualifications: Demonstrated success mentoring and developing engineering talent.
