Principal Software Engineer

Description

The role is Principal Software Engineer, based at 1375 Crossman Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94089.

The position works on large, distributed enterprise applications built in Java.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, build and rollout of complex distributed enterprise applications written in Java.
• Design scalable, secure systems that support business objectives.
• Own and evolve the technical architecture, holding the team to best practices and coding standards.
• Coach engineers through mentoring and technical guidance, and encourage learning and new ideas.
• Build backend and user interface components that are robust, maintainable and efficient.
• Promote quality through unit tests, code reviews and continuous integration, and keep operational standards high.
• Work with product, design, QA and DevOps to set project scope, milestones and technical roadmaps.
• Explain complex technical topics clearly to both engineers and non-technical audiences.
• Mentor and guide engineers, including running code reviews and leading design discussions.
• Serve as the technical authority, giving direction and expert input.
• Write service contracts for RESTful web services using Swagger and OpenAPI.
• Build web service applications with Java, JSON, REST and the Spring Framework.
• Design the architecture for low-latency, high-scale event-driven systems.

Requirements

• Master's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, Information Technology Management, or a related field, plus 3 years of software engineering experience; or a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in one of those fields, plus 5 years of software engineering experience.
• Experience defining service contracts for REST microservices with Swagger and OpenAPI.
• Experience building web services with Java, JSON, REST and Spring Framework.
• Experience designing and constructing scalable distributed enterprise applications in Java.
• Experience building and deploying applications on Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience designing event-driven microservices on Kafka.
• Experience setting up CI/CD pipeline automation with Git, Maven and Jenkins.
• Experience designing well-structured table schemas for Oracle and Postgres SQL databases.
• Experience using Splunk and Grafana for logging and monitoring production systems.
• Experience ensuring quality, performance and scalability through tests written and run in JUnit.

Conditions

Pay range is $255,653 per year to $286,000 per year.

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance incentives.
