Principal or Senior Principal Engineer Guidance Navigation Control

Description

The aeronautics systems group's autonomous intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and targeting business area is hiring a Principal or Senior Principal Engineer in guidance, navigation and control. The role sits on the guidance and control team in Rancho Bernardo, CA and supports the RQ-4 Global Hawk and MQ-4 Triton unmanned air vehicle program.

The level is open: the post can be filled at either Principal or Senior Principal.

Responsibilities

• Run nonlinear six-degree-of-freedom simulations, including stress tests, trade studies and mission analysis.
• Carry out linear analysis in MATLAB, such as gain and phase margin and gain and filter design.
• Design, write and test embedded flight control software.
• Support flight tests with pre-flight predictions, real-time help, post-flight analysis and parameter identification.
• Stay current on guidance and control methods and tools, and build improved ones for the department.
• Possibly help with proposals and new projects, covering technical, cost and schedule work.

Requirements

• Education and experience, meeting one of these: a Bachelor's in STEM with at least 5 years of experience (Principal) or 8 years (Senior Principal); a Master's in STEM with 3 years (Principal) or 6 years (Senior Principal); a PhD with no experience (Principal) or 3 years (Senior Principal).
• Proficiency in MATLAB and Simulink.
• Knowledge of C/C++ and Python.
• Knowledge of flight sciences, control law development or control system analysis.
• Ability to obtain and keep a US Government Secret clearance, with a background investigation in the past 6 years or enrolment in Continuous Evaluation.
• Must be able to obtain and keep Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a timeframe set by business needs.
• Preferred: excellent communication, analysis and problem-solving skills.
• Preferred: ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
• Preferred: hold a Secret clearance or be able to obtain one.
• Preferred: proficiency in C/C++.
• Preferred: some UAV experience.
• Preferred: some flight test experience.

Conditions

Base pay ranges: $114,000.00 to $171,000.00 for Principal, and $142,200.00 to $213,400.00 for Senior Principal.

These ranges are a general guide. Base pay depends on the scope of the role, your experience, education and skills, and market conditions.

Based in Rancho Bernardo, CA, with travel about 10% of the time. Relocation assistance may be available.

No clearance is needed to start, but the required clearance type is Secret.
