Description

The company's Aeronautics Systems group is hiring a Principal Human Factors Engineer for its Systems Engineering organization.

The role focuses on user experience and human engineering work across military aircraft programs, with a strong emphasis on testing, documentation and operator-centred design.

Responsibilities

  • Assess requirements against human factors best practice and the relevant sections of MIL-STD-1472.
  • Carry out human factors analyses, such as task analyses, predictive workload analyses, usability studies, and workload and situation awareness surveys.
  • Plan, run, summarise and brief user-centred design events, including design thinking workshops and operator-in-the-loop evaluations of how changes affect mission performance.
  • Write and support human engineering documentation under US military Data Item Descriptions, such as the Human Engineering Program Plan, the Operator and Maintainer Human Engineering Design Approach Documents, the Human Engineering Test Plan and the Human Engineering Test Report.
  • Work with design integrated product teams so the evolving design meets program needs and human interface requirements.
  • Judge whether proposed workarounds for system discrepancies are acceptable from the operator's point of view.
  • Support airworthiness analysis, artefact creation and compliance summaries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's of Science degree and 5 years of experience in a human factors related field; or a Master's degree and 3 years of related experience; or a PhD and 1 year of related engineering experience.
  • Experience with MIL-STD-1472, developing human factors surveys, developing and running test procedures, and/or writing test reports.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced setting, with an action-oriented approach, strong attention to detail and clear communication.
  • Active US government Top Secret clearance, with a background investigation within the past 5 years or enrolment in Continuous Evaluation.
  • Ability to obtain and keep initial Special Access Program (SAP) access through a Program Access Request (PAR). This SAP PAR must be in place before employment starts, within a timeframe the company sets to meet its business needs.
  • Ability to obtain and keep later SAP PARs after starting, so you can fully support the statement of work.
  • Preferred: current SAP clearance applicable to the role.
  • Preferred: active US government Top Secret SCI clearance, with a background investigation within the past 5 years or enrolment in Continuous Evaluation.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (science, technology, engineering or mathematics) and 5 years of related engineering experience; or a Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related engineering experience; or a PhD in a STEM discipline and 1 year of related engineering experience.
