Description

The company is a British team that has competed in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship since 1977 and ranks among the three most successful teams in the sport's history.

Over almost 50 years the team has won 16 F1 World Championship titles, nine Constructors' Championships and seven Drivers' Championships.

You will join the Design Quality team as a Principal Engineer and work closely with the Head of Engineering Operations to lift design methodology, process and governance to top industry standards across Vehicle Engineering.

You will lead a team of engineers and work alongside the other Principal Engineers in Design, owning one defined part of the Design Quality remit and taking it from concept to everyday practice.

The work includes mapping and writing down the best F1 processes so they are easy to find and use across the business, and keeping them up to date as Vehicle Engineering, Operations, Finance and the Race Team change alongside FIA regulations.

The role sits where engineering rigour meets influence across the organisation. You will work with stakeholders to define new requirements and bring in processes that people keep using, rather than process for its own sake.

Responsibilities

  • Set objectives, timescales and success measures for your group with the Head of Engineering Operations, and own its quality, productivity and delivery.
  • Build new tools and processes for the Design Office and, where needed, the wider business.
  • Run ongoing process mapping and keep every process and procedure you introduce accurate.
  • Lead and coach your team, including performance reviews and development plans for direct reports.
  • Serve as the main contact across the design lifecycle value stream, including Manufacturing, Quality, Parts and Logistics, and the Race Team.
  • Spot and fix process inefficiencies early, and stand in for the Head of Design Quality when needed.

Requirements

  • You are an experienced engineer who has built and improved engineering processes, not only followed them. You have strong technical credibility in design quality and the people skills to manage, coach and hold your ground with stakeholders. You bring sound judgement, resilience under pressure and a collaborative approach.
  • You have relevant experience with a solid grounding in design process, design and drawing standards, and quality management or assurance methods.
  • You have a proven record of running significant projects and thinking strategically about upstream and downstream design process dependencies.
  • You have strong coaching and people leadership skills and are comfortable working across a development model that moves from instruction to empowerment.
  • You have excellent communication and presentation skills and the confidence to influence senior leaders and peers across the business.
  • You have good general knowledge of car design and of the commercial realities from concept to track delivery.

Conditions

The company is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusion, and reasonable job adjustments can be discussed.
