This is a principal data scientist role in the Data, Data Science and AI global development group within Innovative Medicine. The team works on medicines shaped by patient insight, moving research from the lab toward patients.
The role leads integrated analytics for defined clinical-development and trial-operations problems, owning each solution from definition through delivery, adoption and measured results. The work uses ML, GenAI, optimization and real-world data (RWD).
The position sits in Data Analytics and Computational Sciences, within the data science sub-function and the scientific and technology category.
The role is based in Titusville, New Jersey, United States.
Responsibilities
Take a business problem from definition through development, validation, deployment and adoption of integrated data-science solutions.
Build predictive models, simulations, optimization tools and GenAI applications for study feasibility, enrollment forecasting, country and site selection, protocol design and operational planning.
Analyse clinical, operational, cost and RWD sources, including EHR, claims, registries and clinical-trial data, to describe patient populations, treatment pathways, feasibility and operational risk.
Lead RWD analysis that shapes protocol feasibility, eligibility criteria, recruitment and retention, study design, comparative evidence and external-control work.
Build LLM-based workflows for extracting information, comparing protocols, harmonizing data, interpreting clinical concepts and automating targeted tasks.
Work with clinical, operational, technology and data colleagues to frame questions, weigh trade-offs and turn results into recommendations that teams adopt and that show measurable outcomes.
Apply standards for model validation, MLOps, documentation, privacy, data quality and responsible AI, and contribute reusable code, data assets and technical patterns.
Explain methods, outputs, assumptions, limitations and decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Mentor junior colleagues and improve delivery practices across project teams.
Requirements
A master's degree in computer science, engineering, biostatistics, health economics, biomedical informatics, applied mathematics or another quantitative field.
A PhD is preferred.
At least 5 years of industry experience leading end-to-end delivery of data-science solutions using ML, predictive modeling, optimization, NLP, GenAI or RWD analytics.
A track record of defining, validating, deploying and driving adoption of analytical solutions that inform clinical-development, clinical-operations or real-world evidence decisions.
Hands-on experience with structured and unstructured clinical, operational or RWD data, including multimodal modeling and time-series or simulation methods.
Proficiency in Python and SQL, current ML, optimization and LLM development libraries, and reproducible MLOps practices.
Strong communication, stakeholder management and technical leadership skills.
Preferred: experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical development, MedTech, clinical development or clinical operations.
Preferred: experience applying RWD methods to clinical-trial design, such as target-trial emulation, propensity methods, survival analysis or time-to-event analysis.
Preferred: experience delivering analytical products or applications used by clinical or business teams.
Preferred skills: advanced analytics, coaching, critical thinking, data analysis, data privacy standards, data quality, data reporting, data savvy, data science, data visualization, digital fluency, econometric models, organizing, process improvements, strategic thinking, technical credibility, workflow analysis.
