Description

The company has operated for 130+ years and is building a newly formed platform services group.

The role leads a MarTech platform or a major component of a larger product line, such as a consumer data platform or a global customer identity and access management solution.

You report to the Director of MarTech Product Development and stay close to the code, writing critical code in core services, frameworks and complex integrations when risk or visibility is high, while leading a small engineering team.

The team applies AI-native practices to how it builds, secures and runs the platform, with a focus on developer speed and production reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Guide delivery of a high-impact MarTech or AdTech platform or component, such as a service within a consumer data platform or access management solution, and stay hands-on during high-risk or high-visibility work.
  • Manage and grow a team of 6 to 10 engineers from in-house staff and strategic vendors, coaching them on craftsmanship, ownership and continuous learning.
  • Turn architecture and product strategy into workable engineering plans by setting milestones, ordering dependencies, managing technical risk and keeping delivery predictable across distributed teams.
  • Set engineering standards and AI repository guardrails so AI-written code stays secure, maintainable and consistent with patterns, and resists prompt injection, risky dependencies and accidental data exposure.
  • Make developer velocity a priority by driving agentic and AI-assisted development, automation, reusable templates, leaner CI/CD and paved-road tooling that reduce friction and cycle time.
  • Raise production quality through better observability, incident readiness, root-cause analysis and SRE/SLO practices that stop incidents from recurring.
  • Apply vector search and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) where they help with personalization, search and grounded AI features, and control AI costs through token-overhead management and semantic caching.
  • Find systemic bottlenecks in performance, reliability, cost and developer experience, and lead fixes that compound over time across the platform.
  • Work with product, architecture, security and other cross-functional partners on scope, sequencing and tradeoffs, keeping progress, risks and dependencies visible.
  • Model engineering leadership through clear technical communication, sound decisions, calm execution under pressure and a focus on customer and business outcomes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering, a record of technical delivery on high-traffic production systems, and 2+ years leading or managing engineers. You enjoy building and stay close to the code.
  • Expert-level JavaScript and TypeScript, plus solid production experience with a systems language. Rust is strongly preferred, for performance and lower runtime overhead.
  • Deep architecture skills in event-driven design, API-first patterns, distributed-systems reliability and modern data platforms using SQL and NoSQL. Vector search experience is preferred.
  • Strong DevOps and infrastructure-as-code skills with Terraform or CDK, covering release engineering, environment governance, CI/CD and operational practice.
  • Preferred: experience raising engineering output through automation and AI-assisted or agentic workflows while keeping strict security and quality limits, including AI repository guardrails and RAG or vector-search patterns.
  • Experience leading globally distributed teams that mix in-house and vendor staff, aligning them on standards, plans and outcomes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, so you can bring stakeholders along and explain technical tradeoffs to product, security and business partners.
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or a related field is required. An equivalent mix of relevant education, training and demonstrated experience is also considered.
  • Also listed as skills: agile methodology, business requirements, communication, computer programming, configuring (inactive), data analysis, financial processing, information systems, software development, Structured Query Language (SQL), systems analysis, systems development lifecycle (SDLC), teamwork, test environments, troubleshooting, waterfall model and workflow management.
