Description

The creative team at this AI research and deployment company works to make sure the research behind its goal of broadly beneficial AI is understood as it moves out of the lab.

The company is at the cutting edge of AI, where the work is still unsettled and changing. The team tells these stories through campaigns, launches, films, brand systems, and newer formats, aiming for a grounded, human tone. It suits people who want to shape the team's direction from the start.

The company is hiring a Motion Designer to explain its research through clear, engaging motion for films, launches, demos, and other communications. You will turn complex ideas, new capabilities, and researchers' work into visuals.

You will work with Research, Brand, and production teams to develop projects from early concepts to final delivery, deciding what each story needs visually and testing different approaches.

The role is hands-on. It calls for strong motion craft, curiosity about unfamiliar topics, and the ability to find a strong visual direction when the brief is loose. You will help shape how the research looks in motion, creating original pieces and reusable methods the team can build on.

Responsibilities

  • Shape motion concepts for research stories with creative partners and subject matter experts, finding the best way to communicate each idea.
  • Create high-quality 2D and 3D motion for research films, launches, demos, and supporting content.
  • Apply and extend the company's visual and motion language, keeping it consistent while fitting each story's needs.
  • Carry work from visual exploration, storyboards, and animatics through animation, compositing, and final delivery.
  • Bring a motion perspective into the creative process early, working closely with designers, filmmakers, editors, producers, and researchers.
  • Turn technical or abstract ideas into visual sequences a broad audience can follow, without losing their meaning.
  • Work with producers to scope projects, flag dependencies, and keep quality high as priorities and timelines shift.
  • Present work, explain your creative choices, and act on feedback from creative and technical partners.
  • Build reusable assets, templates, and workflows where they raise quality or make recurring work easier.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of motion design experience across films, campaigns, launches, or other narrative work.
  • A strong portfolio showing design judgment, animation skill, and the ability to take an idea from concept to finished piece.
  • The ability to take an open-ended brief, propose a clear creative direction, and refine it with others.
  • Proficiency in After Effects, experience with Cinema 4D or comparable 3D tools, and familiarity with editing and compositing workflows.
  • Comfort working in Figma and sharing work with design and production teams.
  • A solid grasp of typography, composition, timing, rhythm, and visual storytelling.
  • Experience making complex or unfamiliar subjects clear through design and motion.
  • Experience working with subject matter experts and using technical feedback without sacrificing clarity or creative quality.
  • Curiosity about AI and research, and willingness to learn enough about a subject to represent it accurately.

Conditions

The company is an equal opportunity employer and provides reasonable accommodations to applicants with disabilities.

Background checks follow applicable law, and applicants with arrest or conviction records are considered under fair chance rules; for unincorporated Los Angeles County roles, criminal history may affect an offer tied to protecting hardware, returning equipment, keeping information confidential, or accessing secure systems.
