Description

The role sits in the Systems Engineering group of the company's Aeronautics Systems business, in El Segundo, CA, within Research & Advanced Design (R&AD), the team that turns early ideas into mission-ready capabilities.

The team handles advanced concept work from early designs and rapid prototyping through high-impact demonstrations, with a focus on survivability, autonomy, and battle management.

You will provide technical leadership in small collaborative teams, doing research, analysis, and modeling across ground, air, and space systems, both friendly and adversary, to shape clean-sheet requirements, refine existing program requirements, and inform future technology choices.

You will work with air vehicle and subsystem engineers and with program and customer leadership to recommend candidate designs and write Concepts of Operation (CONOPs) and Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs) at the system, mission, and campaign levels.

Responsibilities

  • Lead teams through systems analysis and simulation tasks and projects.
  • Build new simulation frameworks or integrate existing ones, along with performance models, algorithms, threat models, and command and control models.
  • Develop software and analytical tools that model system behavior in real-time and constructive simulations.
  • Build and integrate advanced graphical user interfaces and visualization tools.
  • Model operational environments, run computer-based trade studies, and recommend alternative architectures.
  • Carry out operational and mission effectiveness analysis.
  • Develop and apply TTPs for blue and red kill chains across security environments, programs, architectures, and platforms.
  • Model, simulate, and analyze blue and red tactics and CONOPS within mission-level models to support long-term program and research goals.
  • Run mission engineering work through the Systems Engineering "V" so that desired capabilities match delivered performance, trading new system performance against cost and mission requirements.
  • Build operationally relevant mission scenarios and assess how well existing and emerging systems perform in realistic operating environments.
  • Gather input from stakeholders, synthesize data, and present results to leaders at several levels of the organization.
  • Work in a fast-paced setting with high expectations and varied assignments across teams and levels.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in a STEM field and at least 2 years of related professional or military experience in Systems Engineering, or a Master's degree and some related professional or military experience in Systems Engineering.
  • An active US Government Secret clearance or higher, with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or current enrollment in Continuous Evaluation.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Top Secret clearance within a reasonable time, based on business needs.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable time, based on business needs.
  • Scripting experience in tools such as MATLAB, Python, C++, or Java, or experience running software-based trade studies.
  • Experience building advanced data analysis and visualization tools.
  • Experience with simulation frameworks such as AFSIM, Suppressor, or STK.
  • Experience modeling operational environments and running operations analysis and mission effectiveness trade studies.
  • Preferred: an operational military background as a fighter or bomber pilot, electronic warfare or weapons systems officer, air battle manager, intelligence officer, or joint duty officer.
  • Preferred: familiarity with AGILE, MBSE, or system architecture.
  • Preferred: solid project management skills and good communication.
  • Preferred: experience with version control tools such as Bitbucket, GitHub, or Gitlab.
  • Preferred: strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Preferred: excellent communication skills, including presenting and briefing technical data to leaders at all levels of the organization and the US Government.
  • Preferred: a current, active, in-scope US Government DoD Top Secret clearance with current or previous SAP or SCI access.
  • Preferred: experience in at least one of these areas: assessing foreign threats to US military systems; modeling and simulating radars, missiles, integrated air defense systems, or air, sea, and space platforms; mission-level survivability, lethality, vulnerability, and engagement analysis; low observables; modeling and analyzing RF, IR, EO, or acoustic signals; modeling electronic attack, electronic protection, or electronic countermeasures; friendly or adversary CONOPs and tactics.
