Description

The company's Space Sector is hiring a senior principal systems engineer for ground-based radar work. The role is based in Colorado Springs, CO, and the same opening can be filled in Baltimore, MD, Bellevue, NE, or Azusa, CA.

You will take work from early concept through to operational impact, giving technical direction and solving hard problems. You will help shape system architecture and performance alongside radar, systems, software and mission engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Help build and integrate radar algorithms so the system meets its mission and mode performance targets.
  • Turn system-level requirements into algorithm designs and implementation plans.
  • Analyse the functional and performance behaviour of radar systems and their mission modes.
  • Write the mathematical algorithms that radar modes and sensors depend on.
  • Plan and support the software integration of system algorithms, modelling real-time behaviour on the radar platform.
  • Run kinematic trajectory threat analysis, mission scenario modelling and simulation, and technology trade studies.
  • Help define and derive operational performance requirements for radar systems, then carry out performance and data analysis.
  • Do mission engineering work across every stage of the Systems Engineering V, so delivered performance matches the operational capability needed.
  • Check that new systems and architectures balance performance against cost and mission needs, and assess how existing and emerging systems perform in representative environments.
  • Join cross-disciplinary Integrated Product Teams, gather stakeholder input, synthesise data and report results to leaders at several levels.
  • Give technical guidance and lead the team through development and implementation work.

Requirements

  • A STEM bachelor's degree plus 8 years of professional experience, or a Master's degree plus 6 years, or a PhD plus 4 years.
  • Hold an active U.S. Government Secret clearance, current and within scope, when you apply.
  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Show proven skill in MATLAB and code prototyping.
  • Have worked through the Systems Engineering lifecycle on system development.
  • Have experience with signal processing and radar systems.
  • Have used radar Blake charts for operational performance analysis.
  • Be comfortable with common engineering and collaboration tools, such as the Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence and similar), SharePoint, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Solve problems well and plan and run technical projects from start to finish.
  • Work on your own, organise complex tasks, and work effectively in cross-functional teams with a strong customer focus.
  • Preferred: hold an active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility when you apply.
  • Preferred: have experience with Python, C/C++, Java or similar programming languages.
  • Preferred: have experience with Agile methods such as Kanban and Scrum.
  • Preferred: have experience deriving and decomposing requirements for system design, implementation and planning.
