Description

The role is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, within the company's defense, space and security business and its laser and electro-optical systems group.

The group is growing and is hiring modeling and simulation systems engineers at mid-level and senior levels.

The work supports national defense missions involving directed energy, and the team focuses on developing people.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain analysis and simulation models that assess and improve the performance of whole system architectures.
  • Assess systems across different scenarios and architectures to find or tune overall mission performance.
  • Create and maintain analysis tools of varying fidelity, including simulation tools that forecast how current and future defense systems perform against changing threats.
  • Develop, refine and document core algorithms for DoD customers.
  • Analyze how well systems discriminate among multiple targets in terms of survivability, vulnerability and susceptibility, and steer the design toward a preferred configuration.
  • Analyze the existing architecture alongside new technologies and concepts, and propose improvements for future architectures.
  • Build accurate, reliable models for directed energy and space applications using industry-standard software and tools.
  • Work with engineers and experts to gather data, validate models and confirm simulation accuracy.
  • Run simulations to study system performance, identify likely problems and suggest fixes.
  • Write reports and present findings to stakeholders in clear, concise terms.
  • Track advances in modeling and simulation for electro-optical systems and recommend process changes.
  • Help create new methods and tools that expand modeling and simulation capability across the organization.
  • Run trade studies and other analyses to predict component and system performance and refine designs against set requirements.
  • Help define requirements for communication, sensor, electronic warfare and other electromagnetic systems and components.
  • Help develop and validate electromagnetic requirements for electrical, electronic and mechanical systems, interconnects and structures.
  • Support architecture definition so systems and components fit into higher-level systems and platforms.
  • Define and run tests that verify designs meet requirements.
  • Support product development through its lifecycle, including root-cause analysis of anomalies and other engineering work as requested.
  • Support project management by preparing statements of work, budgets, schedules and other inputs, and by reporting status.
  • Support proposal writing for business development.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing technology), computer science, data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry, or a non-US equivalent, directly related to the scope of the work.
  • Experience in modeling and simulation systems engineering.
  • Experience developing modeling and simulation software.
  • Preferred: 5+ years of related work experience, or an equivalent mix of education and experience, for level 3.
  • Preferred: 9+ years of related work experience, or an equivalent mix of education and experience, for level 4.
  • Preferred: a master's degree or higher.
  • Preferred: experience modeling electro-optical systems.
  • Preferred: experience with industry-standard modeling and simulation tools such as MATLAB, Python or Java.
