Lead Platform Engineer

Description

The Ecommerce Engineering Team builds and runs the platform behind all ecommerce experiences for customers in the US and internationally.

Most customers reach the store through mobile web browsers, mainly Safari and Chrome, and the most loyal customers use the native iOS app, which runs on the same services.

This is a senior role on the team, and every engineer writes code and takes part in architecture and design.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction for the team's platform work, from architecture through to delivery, and keep the team aligned on it.
• Take responsibility for the work other engineers produce and guide it to a good result.
• Write code yourself and help shape architecture and design decisions.

Requirements

• Have 10+ years of web development experience, including building, leading and designing digital products, microservices and distributed systems.
• Be proficient with event-driven architecture.
• Understand cross-browser compatibility issues and the performance trade-offs between client-side and server-side work.
• Have experience with AWS and GCP.
• Be proficient with ReactJS, Redux, HTML5, CSS3 and Web Pixels.
• Have hands-on DevOps experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, logging, telemetry, monitoring and alerting, and a record of solving production issues.
• Split complex problems into small, simpler parts so work can ship continuously.
• Pay close attention to detail, stay curious, and enjoy a competitive, collaborative team that takes on hard challenges.
• Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
• Desired: experience with ecommerce platforms such as BigCommerce, commercetools or Shopify.
• Desired: experience integrating third-party products and vendors.
• Desired: experience designing for speed with edge computing, CDNs, browser caching and incremental rendering.

Conditions

The base salary is $200,000-$220,000 per year for this exempt position.

Actual pay depends on location, experience and performance, and on occasion the agreed base salary may be above the top of the range.

The base salary is one part of the total rewards package for exempt employees.
