Description

Full-time role on the sponsor's engineering branch, supporting a specialized network that runs both Linux and Windows.

You should be an experienced Tier II systems engineer who works well with little supervision.

You will be part of a small team of generalists who run a custom network and handle a wide range of tasks.

The company's Cyber Operations work is growing, and your peers are focused on national security.

Team outings and team-building events are part of the culture, and management is invested in your career growth.

Responsibilities

  • Assess customer needs and propose fixes for technical problems that range from simple to complex.
  • Work toward short- and long-term goals set by client management, using sound engineering judgement.
  • Monitor existing infrastructure and coordinate changes that fix problems or improve engineering with little disruption to end users.
  • Maintain and upgrade Windows Server 2022 (and newer) and Windows 11 systems.
  • Work hands-on with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and IIS.
  • Script heavily in PowerShell and automate configuration through Ansible and Terraform/Packer.
  • Design, build and roll out domain policies, hardening measures and related procedures for core infrastructure.
  • Oversee performance, availability, access controls, and the installation, setup and upkeep of Windows technologies, including hardware and software.
  • Carry out Tier III analysis and troubleshooting of networked servers, workstations, LAN connectivity, security services and related infrastructure.
  • Keep your knowledge and documentation of relevant technology current.
  • Handle end-user support and resolve issues, escalating from Tier I when needed.
  • Explain problems and fixes clearly to every level of the organization.

Requirements

  • Required: an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
  • A bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline, or equivalent work experience in its place.
  • At least 5 years supporting mission networks.
  • At least 7 years of current experience supporting Microsoft Windows environments, including Active Directory administration and group policy security configuration.
  • Experience troubleshooting domain connectivity and performance issues.
  • Experience with network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds Orion.
  • Significant experience with PowerShell, Ansible or Terraform/Packer for automating and scripting the deployment of Windows servers and workstations.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) and hands-on work in disconnected enclave environments.
  • Significant experience with recent VMware releases, including vSphere, VSAN and Horizon View virtual desktop infrastructure.
  • Working understanding of cloud computing concepts.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working in a small team with mission partners, operational elements, engineers and vendors.
  • Quick learner, detail-oriented, with strong ownership of your work.
  • Able to set priorities in a fast-moving, high-pressure, constantly changing environment, sometimes with little documentation or exact troubleshooting steps.
  • Ability to present complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Desired: Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) certification or equivalent experience.
