Description

The company builds small satellites for national security space, supporting missions such as missile warning and Earth observation.

The Mission Analysis Engineering team defines concepts of operations and design reference missions from customer requirements, models and simulates satellites and constellations, and designs mission data processing algorithms such as EO/IR image processing and inertial tracking.

The team owns the validation of each mission and its predicted technical performance metrics, and leads end-to-end software integration, validation and testing.

The role is an engineering position open at Levels 5 and 6. The internal job code is 3D Guidance, Nav & Controls Engr.

As the responsible engineering authority, you would oversee all modeling, simulation and analysis for a program, study or proposal, working closely with technical and program leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and upkeep simulations for large constellations to check them against mission requirements.
  • Take ownership of the EO/IR image processing chain, from photon capture through to the Warfighter.
  • Build payload models for space vehicles to support system trades and performance predictions.
  • Create new algorithms and models, plus data handling methods, for MW/MT, RPO and SDA systems.
  • Define the CONOPS and DRM, along with the simulations tied to them.
  • Partner with the software and firmware groups to set up simulation platforms, such as software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree plus 14 or more years of related work, or a comparable blend of schooling and hands-on experience.
  • 7 or more years modeling and simulating complex aerospace systems with tools such as Matlab/Simulink, Python or C++.
  • You must be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret clearance is required after start.
  • Preferred, Level 6: a bachelor's degree with 20 or more years of related work, or a comparable blend of schooling and hands-on experience.
  • Preferred: 9 or more years in satellite design and/or operation.
  • Preferred: experience with EO/IR optical systems analysis and image processing algorithms.
  • Preferred: experience with government-furnished image models such as ASSET, PRA Toolkit or AFSIM.
  • Preferred: experience with orbital mechanics and kinematic state estimation.
  • Preferred: experience with satellite space-to-space communication networks.
  • Preferred: experience with RPO or NMC orbits and related maneuver planning.
  • Preferred: technical leadership, including requirements verification and validation, delegating technical tasks, REA work, and cost account management.
  • Preferred: an active TS/SCI clearance.

Conditions

Level 5 pay ranges from $180,500 to $269,000, and Level 6 from $217,500 to $324,000. Pay depends on experience, qualifications, and market and business conditions.
