Description

This is a backfill role for an existing opening, and applications are still being accepted.

The company uses artificial intelligence as part of its hiring process for this role.

The role is hybrid. The successful candidate is expected to be in the Markham Elevation Center at least three times per week, or at another frequency the business sets.

The company builds next-generation autonomous vehicles and the platforms that run them. You will manage a software engineering team in the Autonomous Vehicles Integrity Platform group, which leads the AV Diagnostics Infrastructure team.

That team builds the fault detection and diagnostic base for autonomous-driving and active-safety systems, including shared software for AV sensing, compute and vehicle platforms that is reused across AV and IVI systems.

The job combines people leadership, product ownership, architecture and delivery across several vehicle programs. The successful candidate will be a technically credible people leader who can link software architecture and engineering delivery to outcomes at the vehicle level. You will help build a reusable diagnostic platform that supports the reliability, observability and launch readiness of the company's autonomous vehicles and active-safety products.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach and grow a team of software engineers, including feedback, career development, performance management, hiring and succession planning.
  • Own the technical roadmap and delivery of shared AV diagnostic infrastructure for autonomous-driving and active-safety programs.
  • Guide the design and build of the UDS Server, DTC Manager, Diagnostic Monitor Library, manufacturing support services, configuration tooling, common utilities and scan tools.
  • Work with Systems Engineering and software teams to turn diagnostic requirements into dependable, maintainable platform software.
  • Coordinate with AV Health, cybersecurity, software updates, communications, power management, calibration, platform software, manufacturing, service, QA and V&V teams.
  • Manage technical risk, issue resolution, dependency tracking and release readiness for vehicle-program milestones.
  • Set up solid engineering practices for design and code reviews, unit and integration testing, automation, static analysis, CI/CD, logging, metrics and observability.
  • Make sure the software supports safety, compliance, manufacturing, serviceability and robust degraded operation.
  • Give technical and program leadership clear updates on status, risks, decisions and recovery plans.
  • Build an inclusive, collaborative culture centred on accountability, innovation, continuous improvement and technical excellence.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including embedded, automotive, platform or infrastructure software.
  • Experience leading technical teams and delivering complex software for several stakeholders, platforms or programs.
  • Strong C or C++ and Python skills, covering design, implementation, debugging, code review and unit testing.
  • Experience with embedded Linux or POSIX systems, software interfaces, interprocess communication, networking and hardware/software integration.
  • Experience with automotive diagnostics such as UDS/ISO 14229, diagnostic trouble codes, diagnostic identifiers, routines or ECU diagnostic services.
  • Experience setting or running software quality practices, including test strategy, automation, code coverage, static analysis and root-cause analysis.
  • Strong analytical, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well with distributed teams and cross-functional partners.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to company locations, supplier sites, test facilities and vehicle or bench integration activities.
  • Preferred qualifications (optional, the posting's "What Will Give You a Competitive Edge" section):
  • Preferred: experience with diagnostic infrastructure, DTC management, monitor frameworks, manufacturing or service diagnostics, traceability, scan tools or diagnostic configuration systems.
  • Preferred: experience with SOME/IP, TCP/IP, protobuf, IPC or other automotive communication technologies.
  • Preferred: experience with Linux-based SoC platforms, Yocto, embedded middleware or common platform software.
  • Preferred: experience supporting automated driving, ADAS, active safety, sensor, compute or vehicle platform software.
  • Preferred: knowledge of functional safety, software safety, cybersecurity, ISO 26262, ASPICE, MISRA or related automotive development practices.
  • Preferred: experience delivering software for manufacturing, after-sales service, vehicle validation, HIL or fleet operations.
  • Preferred: experience with Agile or SAFe, roadmap planning and release execution.
  • Preferred: experience managing suppliers, external partners or transitions of externally developed software.

The base salary range is $147,000 to $196,600. The actual offer will fall within this range and depend on job-related factors.
