Lead Test Solutions Engineer

The role is a Principal Test Solutions Engineer post that supports engineering management and the development of test solutions.

As the principal engineer and main contact for subcontracted complex test work, you will be an experienced engineer who has worked on complex electronic test solutions, ideally based on RF, digital and analogue technologies.

Pay sits within an approved grade band. The advertised range is either that band or a tighter hiring range inside it, set against the external market. Pay above the standard range needs governance approval to protect internal equity.

Responsibilities

• The work spans design and technical problem solving through to test solution development.
• Define and record Test Equipment Requirements for RF, digital and analogue test systems.
• Define and record Production Test Requirements for main equipment, covering PCB and system-level testing.
• Carry out Design for Test assessments on analogue, digital and RF products.
• Help subcontract complex test solutions to the supply chain.
• Work with external suppliers and other teams to deliver test solutions on schedule and within budget.
• Make sure technical queries from the main product supplier get timely answers.
• Run the company's life-cycle design reviews effectively.
• Identify technical risks and plan mitigations, for example for test solutions or obsolescence.
• Keep the main equipment configuration baseline up to date with third-party supplier information.
• Support the integration and commissioning of delivered test solutions.
• Contribute to Material Review Boards and Failure Review Boards.
• Manage concessions, making sure closure plans are in place and carried out.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience designing complex test solutions across the full life cycle.
• A good understanding of electronic technologies from DC up to light, or a good grasp of systems or software engineering lifecycles.
• Experience working with external suppliers and outsourcing complex work packages.
• Experience with NI LabVIEW and TestStand.
• A degree or equivalent qualification.
• Solid experience in schedule planning and budget control.
• Clear communication with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Strong leadership, with the ability to work well in a team.
• Knowledge of engineering lifecycles and business processes.
• Security clearance.
• Nice to have: a good understanding of digital, analogue and RF systems with ESM and ECM.
• Nice to have: experience in the defence electronics sector, ideally with airborne sensor systems.
• Nice to have: Chartered Engineer status, or membership of a professional engineering institution.

Conditions

Permanent contract.

Primary location is Luton, Cap Green 300, GB, with hybrid working.

Travel within the UK and Europe may be required.
