The Freight Services Division provides locomotive maintenance to the country's largest freight railroads, helping them keep locomotives at peak performance.

The Fleet Innovation & Transformation team builds solutions and technologies that make locomotive fleets more reliable, sustainable and efficient.

You will join engineers who develop software for the company's growing fleet of locomotives running MCA control systems.

The company is a global supplier of equipment, digital systems and services for freight and transit rail, with more than 150 years of experience, about 30,000 employees, and work spanning ports, logistics, mining, industrial and marine sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Set the scope of each MCA release, including requirement updates, documentation, design review planning, and verification and validation plans.
  • Oversee the full release process and confirm through validation testing that system requirements are met.
  • Spot risks early and build mitigation plans to bring them to acceptable levels before release.
  • Keep leaders and teams at every level informed about program and project progress.
  • Aim for software that exceeds customer expectations, causes little disruption during installation, and needs minimal support from the company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering or computer science, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Thorough understanding of MCA control systems, covering software development and release workflows.
  • 5+ years of locomotive systems engineering, including new product development, requisitions and installed base product support.
  • Skill in troubleshooting and solving product problems under high pressure.
  • Can estimate how much engineering effort defined tasks will need.
  • High personal integrity.
  • Proven record of leading and motivating technical staff with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Track record of strengthening teams, improving effectiveness and widening people's responsibilities.
  • Project or program management background.
  • Ability to juggle several priorities and drive projects to completion through key milestones.
  • Good spoken and written communication.
  • Desired: master's degree in systems engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering or computer science.
