Lead Software Engineer - Data & Distributed Systems

Description

The role is a senior hands-on position for a lead engineer with deep skills in Java and Spring Boot, data engineering and distributed systems. You will build scalable backend services, event-driven integrations and data processing features for modern enterprise platforms.

You will set technical direction and write production code yourself, while guiding engineers and contractors and working alongside full-stack colleagues. The work covers reliable, data-heavy applications and AI-enabled solutions.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical design and build of scalable backend services, data integrations and distributed applications.
• Write production code yourself, including complex backend components, data processing logic and integration services.
• Give engineers and contractors daily technical support through design reviews, code reviews and help with hard problems.
• Build event-driven solutions with Kafka and other messaging platforms, using asynchronous processing patterns.
• Shape data models and manage ingestion, transformation and integration across enterprise systems.
• Create high-performance APIs and microservices in Java and Spring Boot.
• Work with frontend engineers to deliver complete application features, using Angular and TypeScript.
• Help build AI-enabled capabilities such as data preparation, intelligent automation, retrieval workflows and connections to AI services.
• Set engineering standards for data quality, reliability, performance, scalability and maintainability.
• Push for automated testing, CI/CD, observability, secure development and resilient operations.
• Solve complex problems in distributed systems, integration failures and data processing.
• Coach engineers, share knowledge and make sure the team can maintain the solutions it builds.

Requirements

• Recommended: strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs and microservices.
• Recommended: strong experience with SQL, relational databases, data modelling and data integration.
• Recommended: experience with Kafka, event-driven architecture and asynchronous messaging.
• Recommended: good understanding of distributed systems, scalability, resilience and performance tuning.
• Recommended: working knowledge of Angular, TypeScript and frontend-backend integration.
• Recommended: experience with data ingestion, transformation and processing pipelines.
• Recommended: familiarity with Kubernetes or OpenShift, CI/CD and automated testing.
• Advantageous: exposure to AI or LLM technologies, retrieval systems or AI-driven data processing.
• Recommended: a record of leading technical delivery while still writing production code.
• Recommended: a bachelor's degree or university degree, or equivalent experience.
• Preferred: a master's degree.

Conditions

Full-time position based in Poland, in a business casual office setting with a hybrid model of up to 2 days working from home per week.

Primary location salary range: 241 750,00 zł to 411 650,00 zł. The base salary is potential and subject to the final offer.
