Description

This role is for a Lead Project Manager on the HVDC Power Transformers team, based in Stafford, United Kingdom, within the company's Electrification business.

The company has been building energy equipment for over 130 years. Its Electrification solutions cover grid modernisation, renewable integration, and power conversion and storage, with software included.

You will report into a project leadership position with no formal direct reports, so you will rely on influence and coordination across the wider organisation to get work done.

Responsibilities

  • Own HVDC transformer projects from formal handover until delivery and customer acceptance.
  • Run several projects or equipment packages at once, setting clear plans, priorities, milestones and owners.
  • Bring together cross-functional teams from engineering, sourcing, manufacturing, quality, logistics and other support functions.
  • Manage project finances, including budgets, forecasts, costs and margin within your scope.
  • Build and maintain project schedules, delivery plans, and contingency or recovery actions.
  • Track project scope and contract commitments, making sure changes and their commercial or delivery effects are understood and handled properly.
  • Manage risks and opportunities, spotting problems early and putting mitigation in place.
  • Serve as a main contact for customers, keeping communication clear and building lasting relationships.
  • Run project and gate reviews, recording actions, decisions and owners, and following them through.
  • Report accurately and on time on progress, costs, risks and overall performance.
  • Work with internal teams, customers and suppliers to solve complex technical, commercial and delivery problems.
  • Champion safety, quality, compliance and continuous improvement across project execution.
  • Record lessons learned and apply them to future projects.

Requirements

  • Significant experience managing complex, high-value, customer-facing engineering, equipment or manufacturing projects.
  • Experience owning projects from contract or internal handover through to delivery and customer acceptance.
  • Strong financial and commercial judgement, including managing budgets, costs, forecasts and financial performance.
  • Practical skills in project risk, opportunity, change and issue management.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams in a matrix organisation.
  • Ability to manage several projects, work packages or competing priorities at the same time.
  • Strong stakeholder skills, with confidence communicating with technical, commercial and senior leadership audiences.
  • Ability to analyse complex information, judge well and drive issues to resolution.
  • Strong written and spoken English.
  • Confidence using project management, reporting and documentation systems.
  • Experience delivering transformers, HVDC systems, power transmission infrastructure or other high-value engineered equipment is particularly valuable.
  • Experience from other technically complex sectors is also welcome.
  • Additional languages are advantageous.
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Project Management or a related field is advantageous, though overall project delivery experience, professional achievements and practical expertise matter most.
  • A recognised project management qualification such as APM, PMP, PRINCE2 or an equivalent is advantageous.

Conditions

This is a permanent position based at the Stafford facility.

Hybrid working: normally three days per week on site in Stafford and two days from home.

Standard business hours; this is not a shift-based role.

Occasional travel, including international travel, may be required to support delivery and customer engagement, though this is expected to be limited.

Relocation assistance is not provided.

The company is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer and welcomes applicants of all backgrounds.

Benefits

  • Fair pay, performance-based rewards and wellbeing programmes for you and your family.
  • Support for a healthy work-life balance, with mentoring from your people leader and trusted mentors.
  • Opportunities to move across teams and functions as your career develops.
