Description

The company is building a vertically integrated mortgage platform that turns loan origination into a single API. Its customers include publicly traded companies and some of the largest originators in the country.

America's mortgage market is worth $13T and underpins household wealth, yet its loans are still assembled by hand while most other financial products are now reachable through an API call.

The company is backed by Peter Thiel, Conversion Capital, QED, Citi, Fifth Wall, and the founders of Ramp, Blend, and Mercury. Revenue is growing every month.

The team moves fast, challenges each other directly, and includes many former founders. The work is demanding and suits people who take ownership without being told what to do.

The API is the product. Every loan a customer originates, every integration they build, and every agent that connects to the platform runs through it.

You will lead product for the company API, covering the domain model, API design, and the experience of every developer who builds on it. The GraphQL schema is where mortgage's complexity must become something a developer can grasp in an afternoon.

The goal is for building a mortgage product on the company to feel as simple as building payments on Stripe.

Responsibilities

  • Set the API strategy so every product and engineering team builds toward one consistent platform, and help the team grow as the company scales.
  • Own the API roadmap and its quality bar, with developers as your primary customers.
  • Define the core entities, relationships, and lifecycle states of a mortgage, and keep the model clean as new products, channels, and regulations arrive.
  • Set the standards other teams follow for GraphQL schema design, covering types, queries, mutations, subscriptions, pagination, errors, and naming.
  • Chair API design reviews so new fields and mutations stay consistent over time.
  • Decide how the schema is versioned, deprecated, and changed so the team can move fast without breaking customers.
  • Own the developer experience, including docs, the API explorer, SDKs, sandboxes, webhooks, and onboarding. The key measure is how quickly a new customer funds their first loan.
  • Partner with engineering on performance, reliability, auth and permissions, rate limiting, and observability.
  • Write and ship code, committing schema and API changes alongside engineers and building against the API yourself.
  • Put compliance into the API, so required data, disclosures, audit trails, and permissions are part of the model rather than left to integrators.
  • Work closely with the Agent Platform team to make the API as usable for agents as it is for people.
  • Work with GTM and Account Management to scope integrations, support deals, and help customers succeed.
  • Use AI in your daily work.

Requirements

  • You hold clear views, defend them, including on naming, and explain your reasoning. You also change your mind when shown you are wrong.
  • You are disciplined about priorities. You know when to say yes, no, or build a better abstraction instead of adding another field.
  • You are comfortable in a heavily regulated market, where compliance is non-negotiable and rules are followed while aiming to win.
  • You care about the developers building on the company and the borrowers they serve, and you set a high bar for both.
  • You default to software over manual work. Any backend mortgage step done by hand is treated as a bug. When a temporary workaround is needed, you flag it, document it, and push for the real fix.
  • You build strong working relationships with internal engineers, customer engineers, partners, and vendors.
  • You generate ideas about product and team improvements and act on them.
  • You are willing to go deep on mortgage, well enough to model it more cleanly than people who have spent their careers in it.
  • You have 7+ years in software, including at least 4 years as a PM on API or developer platform products. An engineering background is a plus.
  • You have owned and scaled public APIs that developers enjoy using at real scale.
  • You are skilled at domain modeling and have turned messy real-world domains into clean entities, relationships, and state machines.
  • You know GraphQL well, including schema design, nullability, connection-based pagination, error modeling, federation, and how to evolve and deprecate a schema.
  • You understand API design beyond GraphQL, including REST, webhooks and events, idempotency, OAuth, scoped API keys, and rate limiting.
  • You write code and can commit to a production codebase, prototype against an API, and work deeply on architecture with engineers.
  • You have built developer experience assets such as docs, SDKs, sandboxes, and developer portals.
  • You have built 0-1 enterprise software in a regulated industry.
  • You can write SQL and define metrics for API adoption and developer experience.
  • Nice to have, marked as optional: mortgage or fintech infrastructure experience, or familiarity with industry standards such as MISMO.
  • You do not need to be a mortgage expert on day one, but you will need to become one of the most trusted mortgage experts on the team.
