Junior Software Engineer - Fulfillment Core (all genders)

Description

The company handles more than 100 million customer orders a year, and volumes keep rising.

The Fulfillment Core team builds and runs the systems behind the company's platform strategy, aiming to deliver each of the 185+ million yearly orders on time, efficiently and correctly.

This junior role sits on a newly formed team building backend services for Inventory, based at the Dortmund Tech Hub in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The team builds products central to fulfilment and provides shared Inventory capabilities to other engineering teams, including integrations with third party logistics providers. You will have room to take ownership of new projects and shape how inventory works at the company.

Responsibilities

• Help deliver key projects that shape how inventory is managed.
• Work with stakeholders to understand the business context and design scalable, customisable solutions.
• Help define the team's product strategy, roadmap and backlog so they match business goals and objectives.
• Own the product lifecycle from discovery through execution, adjusting focus as needed, and work closely with engineers on this complex problem space.
• Help create and define how the team works.
• Help build an inclusive culture and a diverse team.

Requirements

• You are proficient in a Java-based language such as Kotlin and learn new technologies quickly.
• You have some grounding in running complex systems at scale, including monitoring and alerting best practices.
• You work well in cross-functional teams and can explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• You build proactive relationships across departments, which is central to success in this role.
• You look for ways to make simulations more accurate and efficient, explore new techniques, and propose research that pushes simulation capabilities further.
• Knowledge of PHP is a plus but not required.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, SQLite, or Presto/Trino is a plus.

Conditions

Hybrid role with up to 60% remote work and flexible working times.

Both full-time and part-time positions are considered.

You can work from abroad for up to 30 working days a year.

You start with 27 days of vacation a year.
