Java Developer - Assistant Vice President

Description

This Assistant Vice President role is a senior backend Java position in the technology group's applications development job family. You will build high-performance services for large data processing systems at the company, using modern Java and Spring along with AI-assisted tools and prompt design to speed delivery and raise code quality. You will own the architecture of scalable data pipelines and work with cross-functional teams on systems the business depends on.

Responsibilities

• Create fast, reliable backend services for data processing, written in Java 17 and Spring Boot.
• Design scalable processing architectures with proven design patterns that handle heavy calculations and business rules.
• Work with cross-functional teams to scope, design and release new product features.
• Keep backend applications responsive, fixing bugs and removing system bottlenecks.
• Write tests first using test-driven development to improve testability, modularity and coverage.
• Use static code analysis such as SonarQube to keep code clean and maintainable.
• Tune SQL queries and run complex data pipelines with efficient joins.
• Use AI-assisted development tools and prompt engineering to deliver faster and improve code quality.

Requirements

• Have at least 5 years of hands-on experience building Java backend applications on Java 17 or later.
• Be strong in the Spring Framework, including Spring Boot, Spring Data and Spring Cloud.
• Know SQL well and work with relational or NoSQL databases, including optimizing queries and data models.
• Understand in-memory data loading and efficient join strategies for large pipelines.
• Know Java build and test tooling well: Maven or Gradle, plus JUnit and Mockito.
• Have applied design patterns and architecture principles such as microservices and event-driven design, backed by test-driven development and static analysis with SonarQube.
• Hold a bachelor's degree, or practical experience that equals one, and communicate technical ideas clearly to varied audiences.
• Beneficial: cloud experience on AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Beneficial: familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes or OpenShift.
• Beneficial: knowledge of Apache Spark or Apache Flink for distributed data processing.
• Beneficial: a master's degree in a related field.

Conditions

Full-time role.

Hybrid work: 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.

Salary range for the primary location: $94,300.00 to $141,500.00.
