Senior Software Engineer (Boundary Traffic Management)

Description

The company is a media and entertainment business that builds streaming products for viewers across many countries. This role sits on the Boundary Services team within the Direct-to-Consumer group, which builds and maintains the API gateway, a service mesh, and several shared microservices used by client and backend systems.

You will work on API gateway concerns, cross-cluster service meshes, authentication and authorization, and running large Istio deployments across many AWS accounts. The team uses modern development practices that stress testability, repeatable results, and self-service automation, and it is growing quickly.

Responsibilities

• Act as the go-to expert on one or more production systems, and ship high-quality changes to them or to similar systems on your own.
• Take on work of varied scope, including complex features that affect the wider product, and help the team define problems early.
• Find workable solutions when information is limited, by adapting existing approaches and using sound judgment to choose the next step.
• Run your own work within the team's development lifecycle with little supervision, and get it right the first time. Keep improving code, docs, and results with each pass, and build a supportive engineering culture.
• Persuade peers through code and design reviews, and earn trust in your work and your feedback. Communicate clearly in writing and with stakeholders and neighboring teams, tailoring your style to each audience and advising others on hard decisions.
• Keep an eye on the long-term health of your code, monitoring, alerting, and documentation while you do your regular development.
• Help new team members get up to speed on team processes, and refine those processes to work more efficiently.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience with technologies in our stack, including Python, Kubernetes, Terraform, bash, and CI/CD systems.
• 3+ years working with cloud technology, preferably AWS or Azure, or a strong working knowledge of cloud with a proven ability to become an expert quickly.
• Understanding of networking in microservice architectures.
• 1+ year of experience with AI technologies.
• Drive for building developer tooling, automation, and platform solutions that benefit internal and external customers.
• Consistently deliver high-quality work on the first attempt, improve code, docs, and results with each iteration, and earn your team's trust.

Conditions

Hiring salary range is $146,440.00 - $271,960.00 per year. Pay depends on location, market data, internal equity, skills, experience, training, education, and performance. Base pay is one part of total compensation, which may also include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards.
