Description

The company is restructuring its Grid Automation business to speed up growth and add customer value, with a focus on grid flexibility, reliability and sustainability. Part of this is a new GridBeats Product Line built around software-defined automation, integrated technologies and differentiated product platforms.

The team is building a next-generation substation monitoring solution that combines smart online sensors, data integration and analytics to support real-time grid operations. You would lead its architecture and help define what it becomes next.

The company is hiring a Senior Product Systems Architect to define the architecture and system-level design of a digital monitoring platform for substations.

This is a product-focused technical leadership role. You will turn customer problems into technically feasible, commercially realistic system solutions while coordinating internal engineering teams, suppliers and technology partners.

Responsibilities

  • Define and own the architecture of the substation monitoring platform across hardware, firmware, software and data layers.
  • Turn customer and product needs into system capabilities, requirements, interfaces and technical acceptance criteria that fit product goals and operating constraints.
  • Serve as the technical link between product management, domain experts, engineering, suppliers and customers.
  • Write and maintain the core architecture, system requirements and interface documents that engineering works from.
  • Lead technical discovery, feasibility studies, prototypes and architecture trade-offs covering performance, cost, scalability, reliability and maintainability.
  • Build a forward-looking platform strategy that allows for AI and analytics integration, expansion and changing grid needs.
  • Design the software and data architecture for secure edge-to-cloud integration, scalable data pipelines and flexible deployment across local, distributed and cloud environments.
  • Align the system design with industry standards such as IEC 61850, IEEE C37, DNP3 and MODBUS to ensure secure, reliable operation in grid environments.
  • Bring sensor data, asset models and diagnostic tools into one platform covering acquisition, processing, visualization and diagnostics.
  • Set architectural patterns for modular deployment, secure access control, update mechanisms and multi-tenant operation in the cloud.
  • Make technical decisions on containerization (for example Docker), orchestration (for example Kubernetes) and cloud services (for example AWS or Azure).
  • Support field trials and customer pilots, and feed the lessons learned back into the architecture.
  • Lead make-buy-partner decisions, including technical evaluation and integration of suppliers, sensors, analytics providers and third-party technologies.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, systems engineering, computer science or a related field. A master's is preferred.
  • Substantial experience in system architecture or complex product development in industrial or energy settings.
  • Experience defining systems that combine hardware, software, communications and data processing.
  • Understanding of systems decomposition, requirements flow-down and cross-domain interface definition.
  • Proven leadership coordinating technical work across cross-functional teams, including engineering, customer-facing functions and partners.
  • Experience with digital, software-enabled or analytics-driven solutions.
  • Ability to explain architecture and trade-offs clearly to both technical and executive audiences.
  • Fluent spoken and written English.
  • Desirable: domain knowledge of electric power transmission and distribution, especially substations and power systems.
  • Desirable: exposure to edge computing, IoT architectures and real-time analytics.
  • Desirable: understanding of AI and ML applications for predictive diagnostics or fault analysis.
  • Desirable: experience evaluating suppliers and integrating third-party technologies.
  • Desirable: strong customer orientation, commercial awareness and product thinking.
