Java Backend & Microservices Applications Development Manager, Vice President

The Enterprise Operations & Technology teams build the systems behind the bank's daily work, from security and global resource management to internal tools and the digital architecture that shapes customer experience.

This is a Java Backend Development Lead role focused on designing, building and deploying AI-powered platforms. You will be a hands-on leader who knows Java well and is interested in artificial intelligence. You will manage engineers, design scalable and resilient backend systems, and work with data scientists to bring machine learning models into products that give users real value.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and coach a backend developer team in an Agile setting, encouraging collaboration, new ideas and steady improvement.
• Design robust, scalable, high-performance backend services and APIs in Java with Spring Boot, following microservice principles, and keep them secure, reliable and ready to grow.
• Work with data scientists and ML engineers to integrate and deploy AI and ML models in production, and design APIs and data pipelines for real-time inference and retraining.
• Own the full development lifecycle: requirements, technical design, coding, testing, deployment and maintenance.
• Set and enforce standards for code quality, unit and integration testing and CI/CD, and run code reviews that give useful feedback.
• Partner with product managers, stakeholders and other engineering teams to define technical requirements, set priorities and deliver features on time.
• Track emerging backend, AI and ML trends and tools, and drive innovation by prototyping and evaluating them.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional backend development, with strong Java skills.
• 3+ years in a technical leadership or lead developer role, with a record of delivering complex projects.
• Deep experience with the Spring Framework, especially Spring Boot, for building microservices.
• Solid grasp of microservice architecture, Docker containers and Kubernetes orchestration.
• Skilled at building RESTful APIs and event-driven systems.
• Strong experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, and NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Cassandra.
• Experience with message brokers such as Apache Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Solid knowledge of software design principles, design patterns and Agile methods.
• Beneficial: hands-on experience building applications that call or interact with AI/ML models.
• Beneficial: familiarity with AWS, Google Cloud or Azure and their AI/ML services.
• Beneficial: basic Python and common machine learning libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch or scikit-learn.
• Beneficial: experience with MLOps practices and tools for deploying and monitoring models.
• Beneficial: knowledge of data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark or Apache Flink.
• Beneficial: experience with search and analytics engines such as Elasticsearch.

Conditions

Full-time position based in Irving, Texas, United States.

Hybrid model with 3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely.

Base salary range for this location: $125,760.00 to $188,640.00.

Eligible employees may also receive discretionary and formulaic incentive and retention awards.
