Infrastructure Operations Engineer

Description

The infrastructure engineering team supports the lab environments used to develop and test the company's products.

The work covers infrastructure automation, configuration management, monitoring, virtualisation and hands-on lab engineering, with the aim of making environments more reliable, standardised and efficient.

You will use tools such as Ansible, Windows, Linux and Prometheus, and look at how AI and automation can simplify operational workflows.

The Global Devices team designs and builds hardware and the software that runs on it, covering strategy, full device lifecycles, manufacturing, launch and ongoing optimisation.

Devices span connectivity, entertainment and smart home, for the company, Comcast, Xumo and syndication partners.

The company is a media and entertainment business offering entertainment, sports, news and arts through its products and services.

Based at the company Labs office in Brentwood.

Responsibilities

• Support, maintain and improve lab infrastructure, covering Windows and Linux systems, virtual machines, networking and related equipment.
• Build infrastructure automation and configuration management with tools such as Ansible, to cut repetitive provisioning, configuration, validation and operations work.
• Monitor infrastructure health and connectivity with observability tools such as Prometheus, improving reliability and visibility.
• Look into AI and automation to improve engineering workflows, standardisation and operational efficiency.
• Support hands-on lab work and collaborate with engineering teams on rack installation, patching and fibre and Cat6 cabling, tracking the work in Jira.

Requirements

• Current, hands-on commercial experience in infrastructure, DevOps or systems engineering.
• A degree in Computer Science or a related technical subject, or equivalent practical experience.
• Current practical experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management, ideally Ansible or similar deployment tooling.
• Good working knowledge of Linux, Windows and virtual machine platforms.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with experience using Jira or a similar work-tracking tool.
• Willingness to work hands-on in a lab and enthusiasm for applying AI and automation to operational workflows.
• Desirable: previous experience in an engineering, test or laboratory environment.
• Desirable: experience with physical infrastructure, racks, networking, fibre or Cat6 cabling.
• Desirable: broader experience in infrastructure standardisation, operational tooling or process improvement.

Conditions

Hybrid working, with 2 days per week in the office.

Based at the Brentwood the company Labs office, a 10-minute walk from the station, with regular trains to London Liverpool Street.
