Requirements

  • A hands-on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Engineer who designs, builds, automates, secures, and operates production cloud environments on Google Cloud. You understand how GCP compute, container, networking, identity, security, and observability services work together and can troubleshoot problems across the platform. You enjoy turning cloud architecture and security requirements into reliable infrastructure through automation and Infrastructure as Code. You may have experience in platform engineering, DevOps, or SRE, but your background includes meaningful hands-on engineering experience specifically within Google Cloud environments.
  • A Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Engineer who builds the reusable infrastructure, automation, and engineering foundations that product teams rely on. You enjoy making environments secure, repeatable, observable, reliable, and easier for developers to use. You will support federal agency modernization by building, deploying, automating, and maintaining secure and efficient GCP cloud environments.
  • The work:
  • Design, build, configure, and operate secure Google Cloud infrastructure across production environments.
  • Deploy and support GCP compute and application platforms such as Compute Engine, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Cloud Run, and other Google-managed services.
  • Design and troubleshoot GCP networking, including VPCs, subnets, firewall rules, DNS, routing, load balancing, NAT, and private/hybrid connectivity.
  • Configure and manage Google Cloud identity and security capabilities including IAM roles, service accounts, workload identity, secrets, and least-privilege access controls.
  • Develop reusable Infrastructure as Code using Terraform to provision and manage Google Cloud environments consistently.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD and deployment automation using tools such as Cloud Build, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, or comparable technologies.
  • Implement Google Cloud Monitoring, Logging, alerting, observability, reliability, backup/recovery, and operational controls.
  • Use AFS-approved AI-assisted engineering tools and workflows to accelerate automation, troubleshooting, documentation, code development, and platform analysis while validating outputs.
  • Support cloud migration and modernization initiatives and partner with application, security, architecture, data, and delivery teams to move workloads into Google Cloud.
  • For more experienced candidates, lead complex GCP initiatives, develop reusable architecture and engineering patterns, mentor others, and influence cloud architecture, security, reliability, and modernization decisions.
  • Here's what you need:
  • Professional cloud, infrastructure, platform, DevOps, or SRE experience that includes at least 2 years of hands-on engineering experience specifically within Google Cloud Platform production environments.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience across multiple core GCP areas, such as Compute Engine, GKE/Kubernetes, Cloud Run, VPC networking, IAM/service accounts, Cloud Storage, Cloud Monitoring/Logging, or comparable Google Cloud services.
  • Hands-on experience designing, provisioning, or maintaining GCP infrastructure using Terraform or comparable Infrastructure as Code practices.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting GCP networking and IAM/security, including VPCs, firewall rules, service accounts, roles/permissions, and access controls.
  • Experience deploying or operating containerized/cloud-native workloads using GKE/Kubernetes and Docker and/or serverless workloads using Cloud Run.
  • Experience building or supporting CI/CD pipelines and automated cloud deployments.
  • For candidates with deeper experience, demonstrated ability to lead complex GCP platform initiatives, define standards, mentor others, and influence architecture and reliability decisions across teams.
  • Bonus points if you have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Google Cloud certification such as Associate Cloud Engineer, Professional Cloud Architect, Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer, Professional Cloud Security Engineer, or Professional Cloud Network Engineer.
  • Experience with advanced GCP networking or platform capabilities such as Shared VPC, Cloud NAT, Private Service Connect, VPN/Interconnect, organization policies, VPC Service Controls, or Workload Identity Federation.
  • Experience with additional Google Cloud services such as BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Cloud SQL, Dataflow, Firestore, Vertex AI, Gemini, or other managed data/AI services.
  • Experience migrating applications or infrastructure from on-premises, AWS, Azure, or legacy environments into Google Cloud.
  • Experience with Helm, Argo CD, GitOps, policy as code, secrets management, platform engineering, or SRE practices.
  • Experience with NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, Zero Trust, federal cloud security, or other regulated environments.
  • Previous federal consulting, government, or mission-oriented delivery experience.
  • Eligibility Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to work with federal clients and comply with applicable AFS, client, security, and program requirements.
