Description

The company runs global FX risk technology, with about $5 trillion passing through its network each day and business in more than 180 countries.

This is a Lead Java Developer (Vice President) role in the FX Risk technology team, focused on real-time FX risk management systems.

The team works with an internal GenAI toolset that is already part of daily engineering work, not a pilot.

The platform is a greenfield application, in production for 3 years, with a strategic commitment of 10+ years from the business.

The role is an individual contributor position with no direct reports.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of complex, high-performance Java applications for FX risk management across global markets.
  • Design scalable, low-latency solutions that process real-time risk data, building in resilience, performance and security from the start.
  • Set technical direction and make key decisions on system design, architecture and engineering standards for the team.
  • Turn complex business requirements into robust, high-quality code, working with quantitative analysts, traders and business stakeholders.
  • Build scalable software in an agile setting, using AI coding tools to speed up delivery without lowering standards.
  • Act as the team's technical reference point, raising engineering quality through example, guidance and knowledge sharing.
  • Evaluate, propose and adopt new technologies and frameworks.
  • Take part in mandatory cross-team code reviews, supported by the company Squad AI reviewers and peer engineers, to check security, quality and compliance.
  • Own L3 production support issues, resolving them quickly and delivering long-term fixes for root causes.
  • Support testing and post-production deployment, writing TDD-first code and validating weekly releases.
  • Contribute to the firm's technology strategy for risk technology at global scale.

Requirements

  • Proven hands-on Java experience, with a strong focus on Core Java and multithreading in high-load, high-throughput systems.
  • Deep understanding of JVM performance, including memory profiling, GC tuning and performance optimisation.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems architecture and in-memory computing.
  • Proven production experience with Apache Ignite, used at scale.
  • Strong MongoDB skills: CRUD operations, indexing and performance tuning in production.
  • Deep SQL knowledge and Oracle query optimisation.
  • Solid experience with Apache Kafka and/or Solace messaging.
  • Proficiency in Linux and scripting, comfortable on the command line and automating tasks.
  • Experience deploying and maintaining applications on AWS, Azure or similar cloud platforms.
  • A strong commitment to Test-Driven Development, writing tests first.
  • Readiness to take part in L3 production support and own release activities end to end.
  • Nice to have: experience in financial services technology, particularly risk, trading or capital markets.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with FX products such as spot, forwards, options or derivatives.
  • Nice to have: understanding of real-time risk calculation systems or market data platforms.
  • Nice to have: exposure to low-latency, high-throughput distributed systems.
