Description

The FX Technology group builds IT systems for the FX Sales and Trading business, with about 400 staff. Core development sits in London, New York and Singapore, working directly with the trading desks. Client-facing applications include the company FX Velocity and FX Click.

The team is hiring a Senior Infrastructure and Middleware Engineer based in Mississauga, Canada. The role covers hardware, application infrastructure, connectivity and middleware for the FX platforms, and includes acting as local Lead. You will design, maintain and support the application infrastructure used by FX Technology, and manage design, build, deployment and support of eTrading and other FX applications across all environments. The work is fast-paced.

You will report to the FX Infrastructure Lead in the UK and work with development teams and business and technology teams around the world.

The title in the original is Vice President; the role is listed as Senior-level.

Responsibilities

  • Advise developers and engineers on messaging middleware, Linux, Windows, server hardware, network connectivity, performance engineering and web middleware across all FX applications.
  • Lead major replatforming, re-engineering and migration work across FX applications.
  • Guide other infrastructure engineers as Lead Engineer within the team.
  • Work with application and infrastructure teams to turn application needs into infrastructure designs, then track delivery of the agreed solutions.
  • Measure performance and find gains through hardware tuning, topology changes and application design.
  • Provide some L3 support for the FX eTrading platforms, mainly for OS, connectivity and middleware faults.
  • Run some project management on small-scale projects.
  • Contribute to application releases that depend on infrastructure changes.
  • Work with the business, development and Production Support teams to investigate issues and prevent production defects.
  • Partner with DevOps Engineers on DevOps initiatives.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience supporting Solace, TIBCO EMS or TIBCO Rendezvous, as a systems engineer or application developer.
  • Extensive expertise in at least one of Linux, TCP/IP networking, low-latency performance engineering, firewalls or server hardware, enough to act as an FX-wide subject-matter expert.
  • Experience in at least one of Java, C++ or.NET.
  • Experience with distributed systems, covering scaling, fault tolerance, load balancing, networking and security.
  • Experience in at least one of Bash/Bourne Shell, Python or Perl.
  • Advantageous: experience with high-volume, low-latency, highly available IT systems, including their architecture and SLAs.
  • Advantageous: any hands-on Linux administration.
  • Advantageous: general infrastructure knowledge or hands-on skill with message-oriented middleware (Solace, TIBCO EMS, TIBCO Rendezvous, Aeron) and networks.
  • A clear understanding of the banking environment and a strong interest in financial markets.
  • Open-minded, good at building networks and making use of resources, and a team player.
  • High attention to detail and a clear drive to take ownership of initiatives and finish them.
  • Proactive and able to work independently, with strong analytical skills.
  • Results-oriented and client-focused, able to work under pressure, set priorities and stay organised.
