Responsibilities

• Lead several varied technology projects and a group of developers experienced in distributed microservices and full-stack systems, building solutions that address the company's regulatory needs.
• Keep up with technology trends, test and learn new tools, take part in internal and external tech communities, and mentor others in the engineering community.
• Team up with digital product managers to ship dependable cloud solutions that give millions of Americans stronger financial footing.
• Build with languages such as Java, Scala, Python, Go, Node.js, JavaScript and TypeScript, along with open source relational and NoSQL databases, container orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes, and a range of AWS tools and services.
• Lead technical direction across Agile teams and set standards for design, development and operational excellence.
• Work with architects to shape service boundaries, integration patterns and reusable frameworks.
• Spot areas to improve, carry out targeted refactoring, and help reduce technical debt and raise system performance.
• Shape long-term technology strategy by assessing emerging tools and practices, in an environment where teams build and own what they ship.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related quantitative field such as statistics, economics, operations research, analytics, mathematics or engineering.
• At least 4 years of software engineering experience. Internships do not count.
• At least 2 years working with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), cloud-based productivity tools or virtualization technologies.
• Preferred: a master's degree in computer science or a related field.
• Preferred: 7+ years of coding in more than two of Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C and Scala.
• Preferred: 3+ years working with databases and database management systems.
• Preferred: 3+ years with AWS, GCP, Azure, cloud productivity tools or virtualization technologies.
• Preferred: 4+ years contributing to open source frameworks.
• Preferred: 3+ years with front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks.
• Preferred: 4+ years building synchronous and asynchronous APIs.
• Preferred: 3+ years with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code and automated testing frameworks.
• Preferred: 3+ years using Git-based version control such as Git, GitHub or Bitbucket.
• Preferred: 3+ years troubleshooting technical issues in cloud environments.
• Preferred: experience with modern AI-based coding tools and IDE copilots.
• Preferred: 1+ year mentoring engineers and supporting their professional development on technical teams.
• Preferred: 1+ year using observability to find and optimize performance bottlenecks in distributed systems.
• Preferred: experience with interactive AI tools that go beyond basic code completion to boost productivity.
• Preferred: experience leading cross-functional engineering efforts or large-scale technical initiatives.
• Preferred: experience establishing and enforcing coding standards and design patterns across teams.

Full-time annual salaries by location: McLean, VA is $197,300 to $225,100 for Full-stack Engineer 4.

These figures apply only to people hired to work in the listed locations and reflect what the company is willing to pay at the time of posting. Part-time pay is prorated to the agreed hours. Candidates hired elsewhere get the pay range for their location, and their exact salary is stated in the offer letter.
