Full-stack Engineer 5 (Senior Manager, IC )-EDT

Description

The team manages data technology, platforms and experiences across the company, with the goal of making data easy to find, use, understand, govern and protect across the full data lifecycle.

The work covers the platforms behind the data pipeline, including storage and access, and is moving toward AI capabilities and an expanded set of data platforms.

This is a full-stack engineering role in a fast-paced, collaborative, iterative setting, where you will help drive a large transformation across the company. The role is for people who enjoy working with new open source frameworks and emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead a set of varied technology projects and a team of developers who build distributed microservices and full-stack systems that help the company meet regulatory requirements.
• Provide technical leadership across several teams, shaping system architecture and the long-term technical direction.
• Drive the design and build of large-scale, distributed or cloud-native systems that must be highly reliable and performant.
• Work with architects and product leaders to set platform roadmaps and a strategy for shared services.
• Team with digital product managers to deliver resilient cloud-based solutions that give millions of Americans tools for financial empowerment.
• Stay current on technology trends, test and learn new tools, take part in internal and external technology communities, and mentor members of the engineering community.
• Use languages such as Java, Scala, Python, Go, Node.js, JavaScript and TypeScript, open source relational and NoSQL databases, container orchestration with Docker and Kubernetes, and a range of AWS services.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related quantitative field such as statistics, economics, operations research, analytics, mathematics or engineering.
• At least 6 years of professional software engineering experience. Internships do not count.
• At least 3 years of experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), cloud-based productivity tools or virtualization technologies.
• Preferred: a master's degree in computer science or a related field.
• Preferred: 9+ years of coding in more than two of Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C and Scala.
• Preferred: 5+ years contributing to open source frameworks.
• Preferred: 5+ years with front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks.
• Preferred: 5+ years building synchronous and asynchronous APIs.
• Preferred: 4+ years with databases and database management systems.
• Preferred: 4+ years with AWS, GCP, Azure, or cloud-based productivity tools or virtualization technologies.
• Preferred: 4+ years with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code and automated testing frameworks.
• Preferred: 4+ years with Git-based version control (e.g., Git, GitHub, Bitbucket).
• Preferred: 4+ years troubleshooting technical issues in cloud environments.
• Preferred: 3+ years mentoring senior engineers and supporting their professional growth.
• Preferred: 2+ years using observability to find and fix performance bottlenecks in distributed systems.
• Preferred: 1+ year leading architecture design reviews and shaping enterprise-wide technical standards and methods.
• Preferred: 1+ year setting and enforcing coding standards and design patterns across teams.
• Preferred: 1+ year putting observability and reliability practices in place at scale.
• Preferred: experience with modern AI-based coding tools and IDE copilots.
• Preferred: experience shaping technology strategy at the portfolio or business unit level.
• Preferred: experience with interactive AI tools that go beyond basic code completion to boost productivity.
• Preferred: experience leading cross-functional engineering efforts or large-scale technical initiatives.

Conditions

Base salary for full-time roles: McLean, VA $229,900 to $262,400; Richmond, VA $209,000 to $238,500, for Full-stack Engineer 5. Candidates hired into other locations receive that location's range, and the exact offer amount appears only in the offer letter. Part-time pay is prorated to the agreed hours.

Pay figures reflect what the company is willing to pay when the posting was made.

The role may also be eligible for performance-based incentive pay, such as cash bonuses and or long-term incentives, which may be discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan.
